Id go with a WD or Hitachi hdd and a fury or ripjaws ram. Other than that you're going to end up starting a fanboy war with gpu

but you might like thi one better

You needn't spend that much on a Z97 board with a locked CPU. Also, unless he has a ton of DVDs from past games, you needn't include a DVD reader/writer either.

Also, this case is much nicer to build in.

In hindsight, if he has $800 to spend, there's one thing I'd like to change. PowerColour doesn't make the best GPUs. Let me swap it out from something from MSI, XFX, or Sapphire.
