don't do that...pick a single powerful card instead such as a GTX 980 or 980ti...SLI support and scalling these days is atrocious many of the newer titles won't support it at all and it's buggy and you get micro-stuttering and driver issues and all that shit...save yourself the headache and buy a single power graphics solution.

Also the 980 is very bad for the 550 bucks here. i can get on the stock one with ocing a 970 thats not worth at all

the GTX 980 is 20% faster than a GTX 970 and it has full access to the 4GB of video memory...and you CAN overclock the GTX 980 as well making it head and shoulders above the GTX 970...no it's not the best value and you might as well swing for a GTX 980ti you get more performance for your money most of the time.

Nah 20% would be nice but in facts its not even that. 5-15% depends on the game. that would be 200 bucks more not worth for me. I can get double the performance or even more with sli 970 for 600 bucks thats 50 more than a single 980

And you have to throw them in the trash next year cause of the VRAM >.< - the issue on the 970 prevents SYS RAM caching and thus limits you MUCH more than a 980

yes...but it DEPENDS ON THE GAME and whether or not :

1- it support SLI

2- it supports it well enough so that the scaling and frame-pacing is not too bad so that you get a benefit from it.

MANY times you will find yourself gaming on a single GTX 970 even if you have two of them in your system...don't get me wrong i love nvidia but SLI is garbage (and so is crossfire) been there, done that, never gonna do it again.

Drivers are fine. The 2009 horror stories that people still reference are long over.

You won't be able to run GameWorks with a 970 anyway - won't make a difference

Look man, get a 970 it's fine if you feel it's the card for you...but when it will be time for an upgrade you should consider whether or not it would be better for you to just sell the GTX 970 you have online and order a newer beast with the money and what you will have saved.

At the moment i would buy a xeon e3... Would an i5 4590 or i5 6500 be enough for a single 980 card?

i don't know to be honest the cards i had in SLI does not had GPU boost 2.0 so i don't know how it works i assume something in the drivers make the card run in sync when it comes to clockspeed otherwise it would be fucked up because with nvidia GPU's you can't game at a constant clock...GPU boost always do it's thing and the clocks varies with the loads and temps and power consumption of the cards. So i think it's fine it must be handled by the drivers.
