Stay Away From Sony!

TLDR: Sony's warranty is appalling and wont admit to design faults.

A bend started to appear on my Z3 3 months after carrying out the contract. This bend was not caused by myself, i believe it to be down the the high temp the phone reaches when doing 4K video and there fore has made the devices structure malleable and cause it to bend, many people have called me out on this and from my POV the phones front and back glass components would have shattered if deliberately bent, also i never have my phone in my back pockets, period.

So took the phone to the contract holders shop (Will keep them nameless however they are no small company!), and they booked it in for repair however was sent back as the devices manufacture warranty would not cover such damage to the device, after receiving my phone back from the company i saw that a large portion of the screen had a back light bleed issue caused by the repair center when was cent away. (Another thing to add here was that all loan phones i had during this had previous customer details on as well as my phone when i got it back also had my details still on my device when i was promised by the company that my data would be removed to comply with the data protection act) Took my phone back to the company and they sent the phone back to repairs and was returned with the comment "We were unable to repair your device as the issue has occurred because of the bend which is not covered under manufacture warranty." I decided to take this further as there is post after post on other sites with users having the same issue with their devices from cracks to bends appearing on the device with no user input. Was shrugged off from Sony blaming the end user. If this was Apple they would have replaced the device as they would admit to their own error and have decency to keep the customer happy. Sony has left a bad taste in my mouth, the contract providers mouth and will never purchase another product from Sony again! This is a real shame as this was my first Android device and although i have tried to not let Android be the issue i now would only go to Apple for future products as I have had to go through their customer service and have no complaints.

Although I have tried my hardest to keep Apple vs Android out of this rant i have re read and will admit a little bit of preference to Apple however please don't take this as a hate for Sony becuase they are not Apple, Sony's customer service is quite frankly crap and wont admit to their own product flaws!

Thanks for Reading!

I kind of agree with your view because over the years of having VAIOs, TVs, DVD players, and speakers i can't deny their warranty policies are outdated at best, some maybe most of the products are over priced but the products are really good and last long.

I'm pretty certain that a phone can't get hot enough to bend by itself.

I'm now doing a test to see how hot my z3 getts.
I'm going to record for 5 min or more then use my IR thermometer to check the temp on the back off the phone.

my phone is in a hard plastic case.

Edit:

After a 6min of recording at 4K the back off my phone hit 39'c on the hotest spot. my room temp is 21'C (6min at 4k used 2.32gb)

I record 4K on my Z3 very often. And have for my 1.5 years of owning it. It has not had any problems.

My Z1 got about 2x as hot, and even it did not get too hot to touch. Though it would have been uncomfortable.

As for the warranty, no Sony products that I have had have died in their warranty. And the only one that did die (No WiFi) was my PS3 1st edition after 6 years or so. So I can't say anything about it.

had Sony phones for a decade without issues.... Seems like you have been subjected to a shitty repair shop that did not actually file a proper warranty form. Have had that happen to me a couple of times...

Stay away from Sony ! Despite past reputation today Sony is a one of the most fraudulent manufacturers on the market. For example today April 16, 18 during an automated update on my Vayo SVT 1121C5E Tablet the bluetooth keyboard was automatically deactivated which forced me to pay a PC specialist to pair the keyboard again something which can be done only by accessing the operating system. The DSC9XV Cybershot was soled with a defective lens motor which a year later Sony Switzerland refused to replace . Their Swiss technical support online and phone is worth a dime manned by highly unprofessional individuals who don't care what they do and say . Sony Corp prepares on purpose specific software updates in order to cause the older products to malfunction thus forcing the users buying new products . STAY AWAY from this FRAUD COMPANY !

I used to have a Z1 and man, that run hot. Its touchscreen didn't recognize the touch half the times, it run really hot without doing any stuff and, because of a company named Yoigo (they gave me the phone with a contract), I couldn't access a proper tech service with my warranty, they kept my phone for about 2 weeks and when returned to me, it was factory reset with the comments "there's nothing wrong with this phone"

when I first picked my phone from the tech, I went outside really annoyed, I turned it on and it fucking went hot hot hot hot, it really burns your hand, I just turned it on! So I went back 5 minutes later and told the tech "look, touch this fucking phone, does it seem cool? or does it seem like Lucifer's phone?" and he was like yeah buddy, I know you may be correct about that, but the "techies" from the repair shop sold a lot of phones really cheap to this company so we can give it to customers, they are cheap because the tech support is shit

So you know, I stopped buying Xperia, not because of Sony, but because I didn't want to get pissed off once again by any other company's tech support
