980 laptop Is the 980 for laptops worth it?

I was wondering whether i should buy a laptop with a 980 or a 980m specifically the acer predator 17 or the msi GT72S Dominator Pro G 980

980 is about 30% more powerful than 980M

The 980M is about equivalent to a desktop GTX 970 with lesser clocks, and without that issue with the memory interface and 3.5 GB full speed RAM. The GTX 980 is just that, the desktop GTX 980 crammed into a laptop.

Keep in mind the thermal throttle. Which will kick in considerably fast.

They feature 6 heatpipes, 2 heatsinks and 2 fans - no throttling. Just a jet engine

I'm thinking similar mate and use an older ROG laptop now (with a 780m 4GB GPU), it's a great machine but the only reason for it's existence is I move from office to home and like to game exactly the same.

 

If regular mobility is not required, and you want performance (I push my hardware to the max gaming), get a desktop.

What I think is that 980M laptops are still alright, but when you get to laptops with 980 in it, it is not worth anymore. The laptops in that range get so heavy and expensive you might as well build a kickass desktop with the money used.

I find 980M is just perfect for 1080p gaming for my needs. 980 isn't worth the extra cost for me and going higher than 1080p for gaming is just not worth it on a laptop size. Maybe I would like a 4k for ultrabook uses but not gaming.
