Macbook air "other" storage gone wacko. HELP

Hogger

My MacBook Air (mid 2012) has a 120GB m.2 SSD. It is said it had 80GB of other filling up the drive, and I deleted my photo library after transferring it over to and external hard drive. My mac says it has about 2GB of photos on it, and the iphoto library had 10GB. After I deleted it, my "other" storage went from 80 to 90GB used... what is happening?

When you delete files they go into the trash even if you're in external storage. You have to right click, hold option, and select 'delete immediately'. It may be in the menu or a context option.

You could also see for yourself with https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/daisydisk/id411643860. There's also a free app called Disk Inventory X that is similar.

But if i drag and drop the file into the trash and delete the trash, it would free up space right? my other space went up after deleting it.
