WOOTING One: The Worlds first Modern Analog Mechanical Keyboard

An actual innovation with keyboards.

As an owner of a dank Corsair K65 RGB, I will be buying one of these if they make them as advertised.

I bottom out all my keys! This would be pain and suffering for me!

They could  cushion the bottom of the switch or make a cushioned version

I was waiting for this a few years ago. Now that I have a mechanical keyboard, I see no reason to get this. It's linear, and will probably cost as much as a steering wheel. Being able to change the actuation point via software though would be cool...

I've been wishing for years for an analog keyboard... If this can become a thing where others like Logitech make one, I'll certainly buy one. I wouldn't buy the one showcased in this thread though, I need my plastic wrist rest, my macro keys and media keys, etc...

Definitely interested in this. I had a small thought in the back of my mind a while ago wondering if anyone would ever do this, and was led to a video of modding a keyboard to send xinput by the ben hech show on youtube.

Though unfortunately for me it doesn't seem they want to do the only thing I'd actually be gaming on. According to their reddit AMA the have no plans to make a keypad like razer's orbweaver.:( This has actually lessened the excitement for me, as I much prefer the orbweaver over a keyboard.

It's neat type of keyboard usage, though even for let's say racing games I personally don't like steering wheel nor joystick yet prefer regular keyboard. Never had problems with it and while this keyboard may demonstrate more detail control it's not really needed.

Sounds like implementing a pwm type system for keyboards.

Seems fairly reasonable and easy to do.

Looks really clean, and I like the concept. I do however use the numpad a lot. So I'll have to wait for that version since they mentioned that in their AMA on reddit.

Looks like a really cool concept but I imagine it would take a lot to get used to when gaming. most people when using keyboard for gaming will bottom out the keys so you will almost have to train yourself to not do that.

Some adjustment might be needed sure but not as much as you'd think. I noticed at least that while I'm gaming I rest my fingers on "WAD" shift and spacebar, meaning that I already use variable force so to speak (finger resting on key, finger moving on to key, finger pushing down) so if I rest the fingers a bit more heavily it turns into walk or turn and so on.

I have some nerve damage on my hands already and I can still half press a rubber dome without that much difficulty, I'd be fine.

I think for fast paced games it may be difficult though, as your natural reflex would be to have a faster reaction in game, thus pressing faster / harder on keys perhaps.  Slow paced games or slower paced driving games I think it'd be somewhat easy, but I think fast paced FPS games and stuff like that would be a different story.

It's different, but not impossible. You can kinda practice it right now: put your finger lightly on your keyboard and instead of pushing down with your finger use your arm to quickly tap. You can lightly tap your keyboard on quick succession without actually pressing down hard enough to bottom out.

However assuming this is too difficult to do, I don't really think this is aimed at fast games like CSGO.

I feel like these keys will be no good for typing, as they are going to be mushy... and I love the feel of cherry mx blues so I don't think this is something for me...

My thoughts:

- need to know the actuation point of the key

- how heavy is the key?

- since it is analogue I am assuming this will feel like a linear switch (Cherry MX Red, Black).

- how will typing experience differ from traditional keyboard (like if you bottom out it will spit out the letter faster?)

Yeah, we're all just a bunch of idiots experiencing nothing more than the placebo effect.

If you can't drive with a keyboard, you need to stop using fingers made out of brick.

Still, this is kind of neat I guess.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

I'm going to put my money on "won't work as intended" because of the way it works, your gonna have to have an adjustable deadzone, a strong spring which will cause aches and pains after long use. Probably cost more than a wheel and keyboard combined.

Good luck to them regardless

I remember this being in one of their advertisement videos - "never use a sterring wheel again". It's as if they missed the point in just why a sterring wheel is used. Reliable feedback that is more accurate than binary? Sure, but not nearly as much of the experience involving realism of an actual car, wheel, and gears without leaving the comfort of your home.

However, the idea of this keyboard is nice, and It'll be a revolution for games that can support it, but I feel it'll quickly die out if games aren't going to adopt it. Think about it, though, are you likely to push out an update for a single keyboard? Maybe if Wooting sponsors you, but otherwise, it's not top priority.
