What PC parts do you consider obsolete?

iamdarkyoshi

To me, anything under a core2duo or an HD6450 is pretty much obsolete.

I know these are kinda vague specs, but to be honest, I think for general web surfing, a core2duo is fine. But a pentium dual core or worse is just too slow.

And for things that need a basic videocard, like my 3D printer host PC, an HD6450 is pretty much a perfect card for it, just fast enough for what I need. Obviously there are newer parts that might actually be slower, but I think the raw performance of the core2duo and HD6450 is pretty much a comparison to compare other parts to.

What do you consider too obsolete to be worth using?

pretty much anything older than sandybridge

for me in terms of computer parts.

Hard drives that aren't in raid.

Or hard drives used for windows.

all hard drives imo. Solid state storage should be the new norm. But in specs wise tbh anything under a secon gen intel is pretty obsolete. Because anything before that can be a huge bottleneck

Anything under a c2q is totally dead to me, same with under 8 GB or ram, 250 GB or less of storage.

Ironically I am totally ok with even a HD3850 for like web surfing, but for gaming 660+ or obsolete.

I agree, anything under a C2D / C2Q is no longer relevant and if the GPU doesn't have at least 512MB's of VRAM than it should become a tree ornament.

The jump from first gen intel to second gen was a pretty big step, an i3 1200 vs a first gen i5 is surprisingly close in terms of raw computing power

SSHDs are obsolete, as are wired network cards.

TBH, The R9 2xx series cards are obsolete now that they were refreshed.

It really depends on use, or what you have.

That depends on the workload. My eight year old mobile C2D can still handle anything that 90% of people would throw at it.

Ahh, i dunno i think older platforms are still good for a granny pc or htpc or the likes. Depends on the use case, of course, but hey :P

Not so much of parts more over the standered of things but having 2gbs of ram.

Hard drives still hold their ground for durability in terms of how many more times be they can be written to than SSDs. Not to mention even tape drives still hold an edge in the market for sheer capacity and long-term reliability for mass backups.

If what I'm posting has already been posted, I'm sorry.

Actually, I change my mind.

NOTHING is obsolete!

I use an old RadioShack TRS-80 to take notes on.

I have loads of DDR DIMMs I use as decoration.

Nothing is useless

yea but its what i think. i own a core 2 quad PC and that thing struggles. When i put my 770 in there for the lulz csgo would get up to 100 fps but it would constantly drop below 20. super annoying

Not at all, they're even more relevant now because they perform very similarly to their refreshed counterparts and cost significantly less.
