Accessing NAS over the internet

Skevans

Probably a quick question for this site. Do i need anything special on a NAS running freeNas, any special hardware to make it fully accessible over the internet?

Depends on what you mean but remember you will need to forward the correct port numbers, SSH will give you the server but no storage mounting, 443 would give you the web interface.

I have a FreeNas Server at a business I do work for and another in another location and it uses RSync to do remote backups and Offiste archiving and it works great, Actually sharing the data over the interwebs can be risky if you wanted to mount it, If you had to do this I would set a rule on the firewall to allow only a set ip range access for additional security or better yet use a VPN and you dont need to expose anything,
