What should I do with an old PSU?

Brennan Price

Ok, so basically I have an old PSU and was wondering if there are any uses for it in the hobby electric side of things. I don't think I want to use it in another pc but that could change in the future (Not likely though). I want this project to be on the cheap but once again I need ideas for the use of the PSU first.

Thanks, Brennan price

Personally I keep an old PSU around for troubleshooting.  You know that power supply works, so if you have a habit of building computers for friends, et cetera, you could keep that around in the case a computer isn't working.

Well you can't take it apart!  Because that's highly dangerous and as far as anything else, I'm not sure.

if it works and you think its realiable then use it as a backup incase you need to check somthing or go to someone like freegeek and scrap it for gold or somthing

You could set it alight and dance around it performing pagan rituals. Or free geek. I'd do the electrical fire thing though.

If you make a post contradicting mine that doesn't directly address my claims, or cites 'facts' without evidence, I'm probably not going to bother responding to it, because you probably didn't bother reading my post properly, and because life is too short. It doesn't mean I don't have an answer for you. It means I'm not dignifying you with a response.

I usually scrap them for components.

Making a bench supply out of a PSU is possible, but I wouldn't recommend you do it because it'll prove to be unstable at times
