Does anyone have a suggestion for a hba card

I am building a nas. But I dont know which hba card I shall put in it.
it will propperly have about 10 drives.
and the price must be within reason, aka about 150-200 USD

and preferably support raid 5

LSI 9211 IT mode, tons on ebay for cheap.

 

Edit: Also an HBA has no RAID support at all so none will have RAID 5, the NAS software will do that or you actually want a RAID card but the price for a decent one isn't at the costs you have listed.

as long as the drives  get into 1 or 2 volumes then it is fine by me. Just so that i dont have to manage 10 drives

You don't want to configure it in *any* single volume though....i.e you don't want a RAID 0 or you're just asking for failure.

You either need a hardware raid controller to configure a RAID5 or better, or need the HBA to pass the disks through to your OS to create some form of Software array of RAID5/RAIDZ1 or better.

 

For software with HBA, id recommend the same as leadeater - an LSI 9211 flashed to IT Mode. Also the Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 are great, but not sure what their FreeBSD support is like
