How much watt do I actually need?

Swinzon

Hey! I built a server out of some old parts laying around, specs are following:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400
GPU: Asus GT 640
Mobo: Asus P5P43TS/USB3
RAM: 3x 2GB Crucial in dual channel
Fans: 1x Noctua fan for the CPU cooler
SSD: 1x SanDisk X110 SSD
Storage: 1x Toshiba 1TB 2.5"
1x Western Digital Blue 1TB 2.5"
1x Western Digital 750GB 2.5"
1x Hitachi 250GB 2.5"

The PSU is a old FSP that I bought some weeks ago, and it`s on 350 watt. The system is usually idle at most times, the CPU is utilizing at most 30% and the GPU max 6%.

So about 350-400W should do it.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

If the server has no GPU, you'll be fine with 250W you'll be fine,

I got a Asus GT 640 GPU in it, just so I can physiclly access the server if I need to

I would say that you  would be fine on 400-450w under full load. If it idles most of the time 350w is more than enough so long as it's not some wong dong imma go wrong heap of shit from china.

The GPU uses at most 65W at full load, and the CPU is 95W I think it was.

You also have a few drives in there and you don't really want to have "just enough"  you want to have a comfortable amount more than you need because it means the PSU isn't being stressed as much which gives it less motivation to burn your house down. Like I said though if it's idling or under partial load 350w from a decent unit should be enough.

That entire system won't even use 200W of power so use that however you will.

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.
