Crazy thermal throttle at exactly 50 C every time?

Cavasi

What is going on? I have an FX 8350 r9 290 Asrock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 Mobo, Hyper 212 EVO with 2 fans on it, airflow in my case is pristine.

In games like GTA V that push my CPU, I get an insane thermal throttle. I can see it whenever I monitor temps.

There's a trend in each thermal throttle.

It begins at EXACTLY 50 *C each time. It never goes over, the moment the CPU hits 50 C, it thermal throttles.

Is this something in my BIOS or what? This CPu has a thermal capacity of like I think its 67 *C and its pushing nowhere near that

To me that sounds like a temperature limit that has been set.

The chip is throttling to maintain 50c, and is throttling heavily as a result.

Nothing in my biios is set. Would coolnquiet be the issue? It's currently on

i had an 240 AIO enermax and it would reach temperatures of about 60-65°C same CPU. GTA is really CPU intense but it should not thermal throttle at 50°C... also are we talking about Core temperature or Socket? because core temperatures are not accurate on the FX series.

And i dont think that CnQ is the problem but you could try turning it off just for lols...

GPU drivers giving you a hard time? Try this! (DDU)

Possibly. Turn that off and see if it makes a difference.

Hope this helps :)

I'm honestly afraid that I'll overwork my CPU by doing this, is it really necessary?

I do have a question though, I have optimal airflow that passes straight through my VRM, I have a Pull-Push - Exhaust setup on my CPU cooler, is it really my VRM?

It wont overwork the CPU.

Turn off cool n quiet

Your system is set to cool passively, meaning it will throttle the CPU instead of increasing fan speed.

Go to control panel->power options->advanced power options. Under processor, go to "cooling policy", and change it from passive to active. This will fix your problem.

Don't you think it's worth a try?

It will not overwork your CPU.

Your CPU is designed in a way that it will run at full voltage/clock speed all the time if it needs to.

Just turn off cool n quiet and see if it makes a difference.

If it doesn't you can turn it back on.

If it does, problem solved and celebrations are in order.

I'm on the High Performance plan and the cooling is already set to active

Here's the thing.

I honestly feel like the VRM are getting air because there is a fan blowing right over it, where that fan ends, the VRM begins, and then at the other side of the VRM, there's my exhaust fan, so what's going on?

Well that's basically what I said, do you have any solution?

you could try resetting the bios to default settings maybe you changed something and did not realize it.... worth a try i guess.
