Now it's official: Flash is going to be fully banned from Google ads in the year 2017.

On the Adwords Google+ page, Google just announced a timeline for banishing Flash from its advertising network, announcing that "Google Display Network and DoubleClick Digital Marketing are now going 100% HTML5."

 

Starting on June 30, 2016, Google will no longer accept new Flash display ads from advertisers. On January 2, 2017, even old Flash ads will be blocked from appearing, making Google's ad network mostly Flash-free. The one exception seems to be video ads, as Google notes that "video ads built in Flash will not be impacted at this time."

 

 

Ars goes on to mention that Google has been urging their advertising partners to move to HTML5 in the mean time.

 

Out with the old, in with the (slightly) new. I've spoken with developers at a local company and they don't even touch Flash anymore. Everything for them is either in HTML, Javascript or something not Flash, ha. I think this should have happened quicker than it did, but better late than never, right?

flash is slowly being removed from everything. the only thing flash is used alot for (that I know of) is flash games

I'm actually very happy to hear this, since I'm going back to web development after quite some time. Nice to know I don't have to bother with Flash anymore.
