what do you mean by BEST ??

the fastest? the most durable? one with the most capacity?

in what formfactor you want to use it? will it be in a laptop, a tower?

can you support NVMe?

how is it not great?!

its one of the fastest sata drives in the world, and like most other SSDs bottlenecked by sata 3

the 950 PRO is the best M.2 SSD available

M.2 wont make a SSD better since it can still be sata. its NVMe and PCIE that makes the difference. the samsung 950 pro is the best m.2 drive as of today, but its only available in 512gb max.

I can only find a single 1tb m.2 ssd available, so that's gonna be the only option.  Also it runs in sATA so it's probably not even going to perform as well as the 850 pro you have already.

1TB M.2, I can think of 950 Pro. Nothing else.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

Uh M.2 can use MVMe* what are you talking about? M.2 can use PCIE bandwith for high end a PCIE 3.0 4x slot.

NVMe use PCI-E. almost any AHCI m.2 drive still uses sata controller :)

-Moved to Storage Thread-

As for best in terms of highest performing consumer M.2 drive as suggested the 950 Pro would be the best option for that.

Well, since I paid around 430$ for it (1 TB) I was expecting it to boot up windows in max. 20 secs. But it takes around 40-45. Loading up MS Word takes around 10 secs. Have I made my point yet?

@DXMember Out of my own personal curiousity, what beats the Samsung 950 Pro M.2 for I/O?

The only SSDs that will beat it in raw speed are possibly the Intel 750 and DC series.

Well then you must have been using SSDs with nvme pcie speeds your whole life and you just got so used to the speed that you couldn't stand the speed of arguably the best performing 2.5" sata SSD, right?

Honestly, what drives have you used prior to the Samsung 850 pro that outperform it? Maybe your expectations were unrealistic?

Intels 750 if you can consider the SAS to M.2 adapter to be be acceptable

also a lot of enterprise stuff

You must be doing something wrong, because my brother's machine takes 10 seconds to boot and all his programs load instantly. And he's on a crucial M4, which is 5 generations old.

Mine loads in 15 (win 10), was longer on win 7 but still years faster than my hdd wd green back in a day.

I dont know u so i have to ask: do u have an ssd profile set up for longavity over performance ? Isnt your other hardware/software causing the slow loading ? Have you tried updating your bios ?

Just some options...

Or maybe u got unlucky and have a faulty ssd. In which case i can understand the frustration.

No, but a friend of mine is using SanDisk Ultra II (480 GB) which should be a bit slower than Samsung 850 EVO. And his SSD loads Windows 10 (I also use Win 10) in around 20 secs. See now?
