Bethesda announced Launch date for DOOM

Bethesda announced the release Date for DOOM as the 13th May 2016 featuring a Collectors Edition.

Alongside with a new "Campaign" game mode which seems to feature some kind of finishing moves/sequences.

that collectors edition is either total shit or not coming to PC. And if it does the game will be total shit, but a collectors edition has to be pre-ordered or they will be sold out... So i hope the collectors edition will be shit, cuz i really don't want to do pre-orders anymore

Since DOOM 3 had a Linux installer and id-software usually also write their stuff for Linux I guess it will be available but don't know when.

This really looks like they're going back to their roots instead of the sci-fi horror theme they tried with DOOM 3.

 

Game looks great so far, hopefully reviews are good! Probably worth the $60, but I don't know about that collector's edition lol.

I might be one of the few that actually liked Doom 3 - sure, it wasn't perfect, and the scary factor was mostly just:

1. Jump scares (LOTS of them, they became very predictable, especially when opening doors), and

2. Creepy atmosphere, especially in the areas where it was pitch black

 

The game had a decent story, and the gameplay was still quite fun.

I personally liked the sci-fi horror theme. I mean, it was much better than the Doom Movie at least

I will buy this but I fear that it will be too much of fast paced shooting. I know they want to go back to original formula but it's not 1993 anymore. So the game pacing, story, exploration, player motivation are all very important and should not be neglected...

this will be also the first id game in decades to not use openGL. They have switched to DirectX. Wonder whether John Carmack leaving had anything to do with that.

I think many gamers are overlooking those points.

 

They look back to Quake and Doom, etc, with nostalgia, but gameplay mechanics have evolved a lot since then. A fast paced, mindless "shoot-em-up" game might not be that good anymore.

 

I sure wouldn't want to play through Doom if all it was, was mindless fast paced shooting. I expect an engaging story to go along with it. And let's be honest, the original games story - while present - was more or less just slapped on. It was just a few blocks of text in between levels.
