Free video conversion softare needed

I've recorded some old Video 8 (8mm) tapes using a pvr to my computer. I got them into a .ts fileformat. I used handbrake to convert into mp4, which worked fine in VLC but the Blu-ray player I try and put my USB into doesn't like mp4 and mostly only accept Mpeg 1,2 etc. Since handbrake doesn't have the option for Mpeg and VLC isn't working for me I was wondering if anyone knows of a free software to do it with. And I do need it to be truly free, I've tried several softwares claiming to be completely free and awesome, except for the fact that each file is limited to three minutes and sometimes has watermarks on the video. Which isn't good enough and I need something better that actually works for free.

Handbrake does have MPEG-2 under Video Codec.

Thanks but Virustotal doesn't seem to think it's very safe. Although it might just be false-positives I'm going with Handbrake now that I got it working with that.
