1440p worth it?

Hi to everyone, i want to know if with my specs i can run 1440p with all maxed out, if you guys in my situation will upgrade to 1440p, and some suggestions on diferent budgets.

Medium/ultra in some games. Everything else should be cool

The card you want for 1440p is a GTX 980Ti, but your 980 should hold up at 1440p okay. Games like Rise of the Tomb Raider will seriously test your rig's 1440p abilities, but you should be okay. You're definitely not going to be maxing every game at 1440p, but a mixture of high / max will surely be possible. Your i7-3770 may be a bottleneck, but I'm not entirely sure on that. I don't have much experience with the the i7-3770, so take that with a grain of salt.

my 780ti has similar power, and  run almost every AAA game on the market on High/Ultra 1440p at 60fps

Your setup is perfectly fine for 1440p. You should be able to max out a lot of games. Your CPU won't be a bottleneck.

Edit: didn't include thoughts on 1440p itself. Doh!

I vote yes on 1440p on 27" displays! I have one and it's awesome!

The Witcher 3

CSGO

Civ V and Beyond earth

It will look better if i use 1440p and medium / high details than 1080p with ultra?

Yeah 27 is the sweet spot i think, but i dont kno wich models can you give me different options depending on the budget??

I run all of those at 1440p Ultra settings at 60fps (well the witcher has a few things slightly less than ultra but still pretty maxxed out )

I am not at my PC right now, but I can pretty much run every game released up until the beginning of this year at Ultra or at least very high at 60fps at 1440p

Depends on your budget and what features you want, ie 144hz, Gsync, IPS, curved, swivel, ETC ETC

I use the AOC Q2770PQU its a (samsung) PLS 1440p Panel rated for 60hz and works nicely with a great stand and usb 3 hub and great connectivity, its on the cheaper end but its a very nice display

or you could spend more and get more

Yeah 27 is the sweet spot i think, but i dont kno wich models can you give me different options depending on the budget??

I run The Witcher 3 pretty much maxed (only Nvidia hairworks off and regular SSAO) on my 290x at 1440p. The 980 shouldn't be that much worse. Then again, I have Freesync, so it might have been less enjoyable on a regular monitor, with tearing and/or stuttering.

I dont decided my budget but lets say from 0 to 600 hundred euros

Thats why i want the best in diferent bugets hahahah

Is there any way to make gforce experience tell me the optimal settings with 1440p instead of 1080p?

It is worth it because there is noticeable picture quality improvement over 1080p and system requierements are not growing that much, but I wouldn't touch it with other GPU than 980 Ti. I currently have 1440p monitor and 980 Ti and in games like Witcher 3 or Assassin Creed:Syndicate or Unity you need compromises to make it run at 55-60 FPS, I am talking about 1500 MHz overclocked card. Going to 1440p just to lower your settings to medium is not the way to go. With g-sync/freesync monitor it should be okay, but I don't recommend doing this on regular monitor on GTX 980. I had both 980/980ti and 1080p/1440p monitors so I know how it goes. If you are sensitive to performance, don't go to 1440p on GTX 980 without g-sync.

With G-sync there's no need to change the details to medium?

How much cost the cheapest G-sync monitor?

FPS drops are less noticeable and less annoying with g-sync, its really needed if you cannot hold stable 60 FPS without big drops. I believe the cheapest 1440p IPS g-sync monitor is Acer XB270HU for about 750$, but it has terrible build quality. You need to check out accurate prices and specs of those monitors by yourself.

 

Also mind that there are only few games in which 980 is not enough for 1440p, like Witcher 3, Assassins Creed or Rise of the Tomb Rider, but you will be able to run very most of games at 60 FPS so you can buy some quality 1440p monitor for around $400 like Dell U2515H instead of buying g-sync monitor, save your money and upgrade GPU once new gen is out, and avoid the most demanding games until then.

Hmmm and the 1440p on medium looks worse than 1080p ultra?? Is because i want to buy (in a future) a monitor and also play blood wine (i already bought the pack)

Of course it looks worse on medium 1440p than on 1080p ultra, no matter how high resolution you have on those medium settings, even 4K. You get more pixels and crisper picture, but there is no point of this if you lower shadows quality, foliage distance scale, resign from AO and etc.

I dont know any game you would have to run on Medium for a 980 to get 60fps

I am talking about 1440p. I know that 980 can do almost everything at 1080p, I had this card before.

Then you know that you cannot run games like Witcher 3 at 1440p at stable 60 FPS on high settings, no to mention ultra and for GTX 980 situation is very similar.

You should specify your performance and visual quality requirements. Are you okay with going down to medium settings? If yes, you can go to 1440p on 980. If you are not okay with medium settings and you want ultra or ultra/high, then are you okay with lower framerates(around 35-45)? If yes then you can go for 1440p, if not then you cannot. 

Going to 1440p on 980 just needs sacrifices on either performance or visual quality, so you simply have to decide if you are okay with this or not. You have to sacrifice either performance or visual quality on 1440p, while you don't have to sacrifice anything on 1080p and this is why I would stay on 1080p in your situation.

Erm except that All my my witcher 3 settings are set to a combination of high and ultra and it runs at 60fps
