That line marks where you've read up to - posts below it are unread. I'll see if we can have a tooltip added to it to make it clearer.

I don't know if this is a bug? But it happens to me every time.

the line shows posts you have not red. all posts under the line the red line are new posts. so when you reft the line goes away  because you saw them all. but if you refest and a new post is made then it will show up above that new post
