How much storage space do you have in your laptop?

SSD's are becoming pretty standard in laptops these days, but some laptops only come with either an SSD or an HDD. So what do you have in yours, do you prefer having the speed of an SSD on the go or do you like the large capacity of an HDD while you're traveling? 

 

Also how much space do you have and what do you find to be the perfect size for a modern laptop these days. 

 

IMO: I think 25GB is plenty for most common laptops these days as long as you have an external drive to use as mass storage if you even need one. Especially if you have USB 3.0 on your laptop then having an external is just as good as having an HDD inside the machine. Yeah it can be bulky carrying an external around but most people do it anyway, if you know you aren't going to need the mass storage then you don't have to worry about carrying it with you at the time. 

 

What's everyone elses opinions on this, I'd really like to know what you think the ideal amount of space you think is for a laptop in these modern times.

I currently have 2x 1tb drives in my laptop looking into adding a msata ssd, I prefer a laptop having at-least a 1tb for storage has I usually have quite a lot of things to store while other may need less 1tb is best for me.

I believe I have a HDD (1TB), although somewhere I read something about an SSHD in the specification, but I don't really feel the speed, inevitably; oh well. By default, it came partitioned into a 600GBish "OS Drive" and a random 300GB. Maybe they predicted I'd bought a decent laptop with the word "gaming" in it's product title for actual gaming... which I do in small portions, but I have an expensive desktop to use when I actually have the time for gaming.

 Moving on. 250GB is enough for laptops, in my opinion, but there are use case scenarios for everyone. I literally only use my laptop for College work (because I use OneDrive to synchronize my work across my devices) and web development on-the-go, so I'd manage with that 250GB, even if I threw a game or four in. If someone buys an expensive gaming laptop for gaming and wants to shove the majority of their games onto their disc for easy launching in internet-lacking locations, then they'd need a TB or two.

In terms of external drives are never speedy enough, and are far easier to lose. They're alright for ditching shit on, though, but that's why I bought a 1TB HDD for my desktop, even though I have two SSDs.

I have a laptop with a 256GB SSD and a 1TB hard drive. The hard drive is fine but I'm starting to run out of space on my SSD, should probably move a few games off it.

It really depends on the user how much storage they want. I couldn't live with just a 256GB SSD but for the people that just use it as a Facebook machine something like 128GB would probably be fine.

You could always get a low profile flashdrive. It's $30 for 128GB, which would be perfect to use for general media and such.

 

Also, I have a 500GB HDD in my laptop, and it's been my main driver for years. Even with gaming, I've never had an issue with storage since I tend to uninstall games I'm done playing.

One thing you can do for compromising between speed and storage is to go with a Samsung SSHD. ~$80 for 1TB, and it's a good deal faster than a standard HDD, though not as fast as an SSD.

Yeah I'd agree, even though I have 250GB and I haven't used facebook in 3 years.  I mainly use my laptop for photoshop and light gaming like Skyrim, Terraria, and Minecraft. Also just browsing these forums, I generally have a desktop every I go and I actually need a powerful machine or a lot of space for something and I have my homemade external drive that I carry everywhere as well. 

 

I so wish I could have multiple drives inside my laptop though but I have an ultrabook design so that's not really an option... i cri eritiem

128gb in my surface 3, although most of the things I run on it are stored in a 64GB USB drive. When a 356GB micro SD card comes out at a decent price then I'l install one of them in the surface.

I don't have a laptop of my own, but the laptop I use at my internship has a 750GB HDD in it

E: 2x 500Gb Raid Recovery (libraries + cloud libraries + torrents) (music/video/pics folders, as well as onedrive/google drive/mega/...)

Total hardware: 1512Gb

Total actual space: 940Gb

To be honest, I could probably do with a single 256 SSD, but having multiple drives certainly helps, since it makes finding and sorting stuff easier imo.

I'd probably want AT LEAST two 256gb SSDs in my main machine, but any secondary machine could do with a single 256 or maybe even 120gb drive.

To be honest, with the current speeds and capacities of (micro)SD cards, you can easily add a permanent SD card to practically any laptop, since an SD card reader is by now an almost given, and get almost a full hard-drive worth of space.

I'm a peasant whose computer does not have an SSD in it. I have a single 1TB hard drive in my laptop, it's the factory-installed Hitachi drive. It doesn't bother me, I'm used to waiting for programs to launch. The lag after the system initially boots up isn't very long either, lasts maybe 10 seconds. It's not an issue for me because I often turn my computer on and do stuff while it's starting.

 

I've had this machine for about 3 years at this point and as of yet I've only used about 260GB on my drive.

I was the same way for the longest, I used the default Western Digital Blue 1TB HDD that originally came in my laptop for 2 years then I realized that after I delete all of the crap I never use on my laptop and the crap that doesn't even need to be on my laptop I only used about 135GB of space so I bought an SSD and upgraded just for the convenience and I made a DIY portable HDD out of the drive that was in my laptop.

The Macbooks use PCIE SSDs making them way faster than all the other laptops using SATA SSDs. Because of that, they are more expensive but you can find them online depending on your macbook model. 

 

My Macbook has 128GB in it. Since it's obviously not my main system its more than enough.
