Project Frost Dragon

OddsCrazyStuff
The goal of this project right now is to get everything installed in the 750D, so I have a system that is a bit more mobile, as a few LANs is coming up.

I have also planned some more upgrades and to mod the case, but that is later.

Also this will not be a fast build, as this is a refresh of a project that I have spent 1,5-2 years on already.

Waitttt...is that you done with crystal madness? (sorry, haven't been following that properly :P)

Crystal Madness would have ended up something like this build, which is nice looking but a pain to deal with and move:

casemod10.jpg

So my new line of thinking, is something like this, which is much easier to deal with:

maxresdefault.jpg

Since that is a total focus change for the overall build, so did I refresh it, so it would be easier to follow.

Also, this is something I only realised when I did the last bit of research on how to make Crystal Madness the way I wanted it.

But that is how life is sometimes, things dont always go as planned.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

So much for trying to start the build today. Now I need to deal with RMA and get a new one shipped.

@OddsCrazyStuff

That's quite the rough handling...bending the side panel and cracking the window like there's no tomorrow...or it just shows how Corsair needs to up their foam game...

The foam was on the front and back, which looks fine, so I dont think the problem is the foam it self, aldo it was cracked.

Its more that everything that was not covered in foam, got damaged.

Interesting...once, the exact same thing happened to me...only with a much cheaper case (zalman t3) and both the side panels were completely bent 45 degrees...

I might, but they will require some modding to be usable for what I have in mind.

The old build is almost apart now, so I'm making progress:

P1020172.jpg

But while I was taking it apart, so did I find something I didnt want to. No idea how or when it happened.

P1020170.jpg

The days 2nd problem comes from the new case, as the punch-out metal didnt co-operate and I ended up with a bigger hole then planned (wanted just the inner circle removed)

P1020159.jpg

And then the only washer I could find that seemed big enough, is 2 mm or so too little (can only fit if I file done the threading).

So guess I need to ask on work if they have one in right size, if not so will I need to file the washer till it fits.

And that's why I hate getting dem holes out without damaging anything else...

I didnt hurt the case it self, cant even see a scratch in the paint.

Its just that they should have used a different system, so you could remove only the inner one and not get both by mistake.

The front of the case is dealt with for now.

It will be interesting to see how this heat sinks hold up. The main reason for these are to reduce hard drive noise, while hopefully not increasing the temperature.

Plus it gives me option, for when I mod the case, as these are more flexible for mounting positions then a regular hard drive solution.

Then there is Aquaero, which hopefully solves my control fan issue. To make sure it can handle whatever I got, I got the heat sink for it.

P1020187.jpg

Which mean the front looks like this (didnt remove the plastic on the screen, as the case will be moved quite a lot still):

Pump with the built on reservoir is done, except sleeving which I will get to tomorrow.

Took some work to find the right mounting solution, as what came with it didnt work. So I ended up using a 120mm fan cover from the Caselabs case, with the EK D5 pump mount. Also put in an extra fan with fan filter, to help create better positive pressure.

Needed to change the pump and fan setup, as the PSU cables did not clear the fan.

Also sleeved the pump cable while I was at it, as the black-yellow-blue combo did not fit my current Black-White color scheme (will be White-Black after modding).

wait isn't the reservoirs going in the front anymore???

That is after modding.

Right now so do I just want to fit everything in the case. So I can tell if I can mod this case or if I need to find another one, and right now so does it seem I might have gone a little too small on the case size.
