Nvidia GP 100 Titan to debut in April, GTX 1080 to launch in June

I really hope this is true (the 1080 rumor). I pre-ordered a Rift for June with hope that I can get a new GPU before it arrives. I don't think my poor 670 is up for the task...

May just sell the Titan for two 1080's... no downsides really, more CUDA, more performance, lower power usage, etc.

"As for the unveiling, the Titan grade products based on the GP100 are expected to be announced in April, with the downgrade version to debut in June 2017. On the other hand, the GP104 based series, allegedly called the GeForce GTX 1080, and its scaled down version GTX 1070 will be unveiled in June this year, just before or after COMPUTEX."

Basically we'll get the Titan in April, and the GP100 cut down / 1080ti in 2017, and then the 1080 and 1070 are out and about this June, well they'll be unveiled.  I'm actually happy with the full-fledged chip to come out first, if this isn't more than just a rumor / clickbait article.  Means I'll just snag two Pitans and move on with my year.

What he said is more likely. Titan always comes out half a year after the *80 card

If this happens I wonder if the Titan Y or whatever the hell it is will be sold for $1000. Because releasing the big die so early on isn't Nvidia's style lately, look at the 600 series and 900 series. I'd imagine the yields would really suck for large dies early on, which would explain Titans being so expensive in comparison to the 80 Tis that get released later on.

GTX 1080, optimized for 4K and VR gaming.

PS4, optimized for 900p loading screens and microtransactions.

XBone, optimized for 792p loading screens and microtransactions.

Not always. The GTX Titan came out in early 2013, before the GTX 780. But, other than that, it has been the trend.

In the case of the 7xx series it was the Titan that released first in Feb, and then the 780 in May.  That shifted again with the release of Maxwell, but Pascal is to Maxwell what the 7xx series of Kepler was to the 6xx series, so maybe that is the reason for the earlier release(if it is true)?  I wouldn't mind a cycle like that.

All I hope for is that the Titan will be $700 - $1000 and perform better than the cut-down version a year from now.  And that it doesn't turn out that they have a Black version down the pipeline.

680 came out before the Titan. Titan OG was part of Kepler OG

But the Titan is part of the same series as the GTX 780 because it uses the same core. If the Titan were based on GK104 like the 680, you'd have a point, but it's not.

Wasn't the original GK100 and then GK200 was Titan Black?

original titan = gk 110 ( cut down )

gtx 780 = gk 110 ( cut down )

gtx 780 ti = gk 110

titan black = gk 110 ( with DP compute )

gtx 680 = gk 104

GK110 was 780 - Titan Black.  The 780 was a disabled 780ti, and the Titan was a locked Titan Black in terms of cuda.  780ti and Titan Black were pretty much identical cards except for the dual precision on the Black.  All used the same GPU-chip, however.
