Nvidia GP 100 Titan to debut in April, GTX 1080 to launch in June

No one else seems to be reporting this, and Nvidia haven't even hinted at dates yet AFAIK.  I'll take this report with a grain of salt.

I'm not saying it should be taken down but it should be dismissed for what it is: false.

Rumors are fine if they have evidence to support it, even if vague. This does not. In fact, so many other things contradict this article.

Half of the rumor articles involve some source to base the article on, the rest are fabrications aka click bait. This sits firmly in the latter category.

For example let's take the Samsung Galaxy rumors. Some of them cite benchmarks appearing in databases, credible sources with good track records or other evidence. Then there's articles saying "it will have a 6" 8K display, 20 core processor, 16 gigabytes of ram, 2 tb internal storage, finger and iris scanner plus it can shoot laser beams out of the bottom doubling as a self-defense weapon". Point being they make shit up to get clicks.

This article looks very much like an example of this.

Edit: the problem isn't necessarily the click bait articles, it's also the people who believe them. That's how these things spread and how people suddenly start believing in myths.

There are sources. These slides are from the Taiwan GTC Deep Learning conference held in September. I am not saying these are for sure true but it is possible(I am not saying it is likely) that at least part of these are true. You can't dismiss these completely as false.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

This is the big problem. How do people not understand the difference between "False" and "Unconfirmed"?

And none of the claims this article makes are so absurd that it should be completely dismissed.

Saying it should be 100% dismissed as false without any confirmation of that is just as bad as someone believing it to be true without any confirmation

The chart looks like a PowerPoint I made like 10 years ago and has no watermark.

Also, why would a deep learning conference have a blank product specification sheet doubling as a marketing slide? I would think they are trying to advance deep learning and the industry around it, not show a list of product names with no discernable relation to the topic at hand.

Arguably it's taken out of context but I honestly don't see how anyone interested in deep learning would have any use of this slide, so why is it there and again, why does it look like a high school project?

Of course Nvidia won't come out either confirming or denying a rumor. They don't have to.

Regarding knowing the difference between unconfirmed and false. We all do, but you have to remain skeptical of any story especially when it's implausible. Believing everything on the Internet, as Abraham Lincoln said, is something you should not. There is a reason this story isn't popping up on other media: it's simply too unsubstantiated and too implausible to make it into a news article. While journalistic integrity is sparse on the Internet, it is a thing that at least some adhere to. And apparently this story was too much even for most news sites. So bravo to them I'd dare say.

I do think when you do a story like this the burden of proof leans towards the party saying it's true more so than the party saying it's false.

Of course this depends on the situation but this is basically a unicorn. I do believe the burden weighs heavier on you to prove this unicorn exists than it does me to prove it does not.

In any case, I don't believe we'll get any further than this, so let's just agree to disagree.

And of course I'll be publicly shamed if this horse sprouts a horn come April. :-)

I'll be tempted to lmao if the pascal titan is not a fully unlocked chip, like the original Titan was not a fully unlocked GK110.

Don't jinx this.  I am hoping it is a full-fledged chip, and it does come out in April so my upgrading may begin >.>  Don't ruin this Briggsy.  Just get your coffee.

1080? I didn't expect them to go to the 1XXX series. Sounds worse.

Another card that will sell for at least 2k. Hopefully (fingers crossed) the price will be justified once we see some 4K benchmarks.

Again, everything is in AMD's hands! If they fail we will never see fully unlocked Pascal Titan at lunch  or HBM2 GTX980 equivalent, oh and don't get me start about those prices!

So, AMD MUST hit first and MUST hit hard! First for them to stay competitive and second for us to finally see some good competition on this distorted GPU market.

so they will be 1xxx after all... interesting

Where does it say this?  Where does any article say this?  Other than the click-bait sensationalist headline of the OP's link it doesn't say anywhere else.   In fact in the SAME ARTICLE it goes on to say - "allegedly called the GeForce GTX 1080".  Show me confirmation please.

Why?  I was just providing clarification to anyone who wanted to know - The names are NOT decided on and they have NOT been released.  The article's title is deliberately misleading to say the least.
