No

You can't be serious.  Hyperthreading is a market joke?

No, you can use whatever RAM frequency you want but it will be downclocked if necessary. Also, please consider the X4 860k, it's a quad core at a similar price.

I feel like we're the same person at times.

Twin brother? Is that you?

Basically OP

AMD X860k - If you want to play quad core games such as GTA V and Far Cry 4 now, then you can save up for a better motherboard and CPU later

Pentium G - Decent placeholder which will save you money later as you won't have to buy a new motherboard to upgrade CPU.

What motherboard do you have at the moment?

No. I used 1600 without problems.

Some games don't boot on dual cores . Since you already have an lga 1150 ( i assume ) motherboard , you should save up 50$ more and get an i3 ( will have a huge impact in cpu limited games)

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

When I was considering the G3258 for my first build, I was told to get the fastest RAM that the motherboard would support, and that it would get downclocked to a speed that the CPU can handle.  That way you have better RAM should you upgrade the CPU in the future.
