MonoChromatico v2.5 [Update in OP]

[UPDATE 8-1-2016]

Since the completion of the build I added a very basic radbox from 2 240's I had lying around from previous iterations, a Phobya radiator stand, 3 meters of EKWB ZMT and 2 quick disconnect fittings from Koolance, well 4 pieces.. you need a male and female to make 1... kinda like babies! :) The ZMT tubing is really nice... surprised how much I like it.

Because I had to replace a defective power button which required an almost complete disassembly of the build I'd might as well do some loop mainetenance - I had some sort of platic strings in my res due to me forgetting to clean the ZMT before using it. Even if it clearly say so on the box! Lesson learned - don't rush WC builds. Remember that kids. And when you have the loop apart.. well you might as well fix things you weren't a 100% satisfied with. In my case it meant redoing some of the runs which would also reverse my flow - only and added benefit as it made draining the loop alot easier. Of course adding two quick disconnects to the loop also added additional drain ports.

I digress.. (Jay!) Prior to the revamp the flow was Res->Pump->Rad->GPUs->Radbox->CPU->Rad->Res-Pump. Now it is Res->Pump->Rad->CPU->Radbox->GPUs->Rad->Res->Pump.

I also performed Benji's thumbscrew mod ( @Benji_w ) on my pump to easier control the pump speed. I'm so glad I stumbled across that post. It makes bleeding the system so much easier. and Now to the fun part! The Pics

First the old build. Sorry for the very crappy quality. I had to download and crop the only picture I had of the "first radbox runs"

qLllEmX.jpg?1

And the new runs. I'm very happy with the new look. Much cleaner in my opinion. But judge for yourself ;)

And a few of the radbox. Its not pretty.. but it is out of sight.

Think this will be the last iteration of Monochromatico but you never know.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the midst of re-doing the color scheme of MonoChromatico. For some reason I found the last build to come out a bit messy - even if the runs were minimal...

Unfortunately I will not have the same amount of time as last time around so the updates will not be as often and detailed as I would like.

EDIT:

Think I'll better give some more insights on what is going to happen during the build and the specs.

All fittings from Bitspower
Shoot me a pm or reply if you want the specifics for any of the watercooling stuff.

This time around I'm going for a more stealth all black build with a bit of bling from the chrome copper tubing and fittings. At first I was looking for clear teint hardline tubing but nobody seems to be doing this... Someone make this.... pretty sure it will be a sure sell to anyone planning a stealth themed build ;) In my search I stumbled upon the chrome tubes from Dark Side and the rest is history.

There's been a small amount of modding done to the case - my first ever dremel cut as I had to make room in the back for the Aquaero 5 LT. A somewhat nerve wrecking experience but it turned out pretty good. Wouldn't have hurt to clean the cuts up a bit better but I didn't really have the proper tools for it.

In order to achieve a more silent running PC I've decidded to delid the CPU this time around as it gets really hot when putting 1.3V through it... well in that ball park anyways.. can't remember the number. I may have it a bit lower than that. I should hopefully be able to run the fans at lower speeds while under load than before.

So far this is what I've been doing:

  • Painted the Gryphon Armor Mat Black as it was white in the previous version of MonoChromatico
  • Removed all blocks and replaced them with new black ones as shown on the pictures
  • Delidded the CPU with the D8auer Delid die Mate - was very easy and felt a lot safer to user then taking a piece of wood and a hammer to a wice strapped CPU. Hope it will be compatible with Kaby Lake but I wouldn't count on it
  • Taken the SLI bridge apart and tunred it around so that the ROG logo will not be upside down anymore as the layout is inverted. Screw wholes in the PCB and the cover doesn't line up but super clue ftw...
  • Flushed the 2 new rads. Removing actual radiator paint is not something I even wanted to try... SO not going to be reusing the old rads;) All blocks has also been flushe
  • Cut the copper tubing to size

Thinks that's about it for now. :)

But here's a couple of teasers.

Got the hdd tray cut and drilled holes in the motherboard tray in order to fit the aquareo 5 lt and delidded the CPU with me new delidding tool. Pretty expensive for what it is, but real easy to use and peace of mind whilst doing it :)

Still need to wrap the res in mat Black vinyl with the hex gear name and logo, flush the new rads and cut the copper tubing.

OP Updated!

Small Update today. Got the 11 pieces of copper tubing cut to size. When I chamfered the ends I appears that I don't have to do it on the outside as this particula chrome tubing seemed to actually get sharper that when just gut.. does anyone have any experience with this?

Accent pack arrived yesterday so time to start putting stuff together:

aqQPTFA.jpg?1

Accent pack and motherboard installed. Fo those not familiar with the Hex Gear R40: The Accent pack is 2 pieces of acrylic in a chosen color that sits on the inside of both front and rear panel. Mine used to be white. Now its black...

Motherboard installed as well

AhfKj1x.jpg?2

This is almost all I can install until I get the custom cables as there is a few of them that needs to be routed prior to installing the 360 rad in the bottom.

preliminary cable mangement

uPiapVp.jpg?2

The aqaureo 5 LT and my virgin dremmel cut out in the HDD tray :) Glad its not visible but I've seen a lot worse cuts... doesn't seem that hard to do... Slow and Steady wins the race was my mantra going into and during the cut :)

Thats how I spent my evening - all good fun. The vinyl for my home made reservoir decal arrived at work today so I think I will be doing that part tonight and perhaps the rest of the tubing runs I can complete.

I'm considering covering the silver bars on the case in black mat vinyl as well... what do you guys think? will it be too much black or go for it?

Stay tuned for more :)

Really cant wait for the result sir :D

That make two of us then. Just finishing up covering the silver bars. Thought i brought home the template for the resovoir decal. I did but threw it out by mistake so that part will wait until tomorrow.

Pictures of the work to day will come up tomorrow if i get time tomorrow at work...

Making the bars mat Black really make the case look stealth :) glad i decidded to do it ;)

Ooohhh, this is sexy!

At first I was looking for clear teint hardline tubing\

Do you mean black tubing like the EK ZMT Tubing, but hardline? If so, I really want something like that as well, like a matte satin finish on it.

So very small update:

I tried to cut the decal/vinyl wrap for the reservoir my self but it really didn't turn out very well so going to have them made. He's a couple of pics that will hopefully give and idea of what I have in mind. I've mounted a LED strip behind the res so it will hopfully give it a cool light effect through the res when done.

wMXkGL3.jpg?1
VvJtPNA.jpg?1

All I've had time to do beside the failed wrap is to remove the PSU sticker and do the tube run from GPU to CPU.

The custom cables are on their way from Icemodz in Iceland. They should arrive at the end of the week. And with a bit of luck I will have my decals for res and PSU today.

A rather discouraging update. The company I counted on to do my decals won't be able to do it unless they have to charge me a couple of hundred pounds. So that part is dead in the water right now. :( Pretty sad as that would really have made the build stand out more.

Anyone know of companies in the EU that does small quantity custom decals?

Hi Randy,

Glad you like the build.

Unfortunately I don't have the funds to do another build. And I don't think my merits so far will warrant a completely sponsored build :) The InWin 901 is a beautiful case and I've seen many awesome builds in it.

yes sir, it's a very beautiful case. there are some things that makes me curious about this case. i found out that this case can only handle one 120mm radiator. my question is, is it enough to cool both of my CPU and GPU? or i have to chose one? i'm sorry if my question is a bit stupid but, R9 395X2 is also have one 120mm rad to cool both two processors right?

thank u so much sir

best regards

One 120mm rad will not be enough to cool both CPU and GPU. As a rule of thumb you need 120 rad space for each component you watercool + 120 mm rad space extra. So as a bare minimum you should need 3 x 120 rad space to cool GPU + CPU. So to answer your question: yes you will have to choose. Graphics cards tend to put out more heat than CPU so O would choose the GPU. Or you can start doing some serious modding to the  901 in order to fit more rads in there. Something like this: http://www.overclock.net/t/1524804/laines-clarity-watercooled-inwin-901

R9 395X2? pretty sure that card does not exist.... yet (if ever)

Thank u so much
