Go to solution Solved by Gumi Rokkaku,

Help! I just recently built my system this morning and booted up the system, the system worked and i immediately began installing windows 8.1 onto my SSD as my boot drive. Once that finished i restarted my computer then the "A disk read error occured" message popped up. I tried resetting my computer, disabling XMP for the RAM, unplugged all drives except my SSD, switched sata cables with my hard drive and the power cable as well but still nothing works. Please help.

System specs
CPU: AMD athlon x4 860

RAM: 16gb Adata XPG

DRIVES: 3tb seagate barracuda
120gb kingston ssd

CPU COOLER: Hyper 212 evo

MOTHERBOARD: ASRock FM2A88X+BTC

GPU: XFX R9 280

PSU: Corsair CX500m

Make sure that the small 100MB windows partition is on your SSD

Also make sure that the SSD and the small partition are marked as primary within windows computer mangement

the computer wont boot up to the windows desktop and i can only access the UEFI BIOS, i have my SSD as priority no.1 for the boot device, how do i make a 100mb partition on the ssd without getting to the desktop?

Sounds weird, but try swapping the SATA data cable of your hard drive to the SSD or swapping ports. I did a build for my cousin last week and had this issue...it turned out the SATA data cable was bad.

this is incredibly unusual for this kind of issue, normally its an easy fix, is there any way to reformat a drive via BIOS?

No, BIOS can't format the drive....

I'm kind of wondering if the SSD is DOA now though...You tried using the other SATA ports on the mobo?

Try to install windows to the SSD again. Maybe the install got messed up.

The instillation process should ask you if you want to format the SSD.

Sometimes the controller works but the drive itself is dead. My external drive was the same way...the controller worked, but the drive itself was dead.

I'm doubtful though, since the SSD did survive the initial Windows install.

You might also try reinstalling Windows (Maybe it went bad during the install, who knows).

Are you sure you're booting onto your installation media?

Yeah, if you boot onto your installation media, it shouldn't bother you with that error...unless your install media is corrupted (It happens...I had to redownload the Windows 10 upgrade ISO for my laptop because it failed to install. After redownloading, it worked fine).

i tried getting installation media but it just refuses to run, i have the media installer for windows 8.1, i'm currently formatting my usb as a boot device to see if that will change anything, hopefully it does
