Am i in trouble with Malware, malwarebytes

Hamcillus

ok so i was looking over the settings on My Malwarebytes anti malware.

I ran into a problem there is an IP address in the Exclusions list and i can't change it as i am in the free version.

I checked the IP address and it links to an Egyptian company.

On top of that Windows defender has been disabled.

Am I in major trouble or is this a minor issue?

this is probably trouble

If i were you i would expect the worst

Install this

http://www.bitdefender.com/Downloads/

(get the total security version, because its also 30 days so you might as well)

It has a built in firewall that have never failed me, and its free for 30 days, more than enough to resolve your problem (hopefully)

well remove it, enable windows defender again. enable scan for rootkits in malwarebytes settings, run a malwarebyte scan and download a free antivirus (you dont need a payed version, the free ones do the same but you have to do it more frequently/manually)

id prefer this one : http://download.bitdefender.com/npd/free/Antivirus_Free_Edition.exe (direct downloadlink to bitdefender free antivirus)

There is a difference, although 99% of the time they should work the same

http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php

99.9%          98.8%

Bitdefender Avast

Make sure that IP is blocked on avast and you should be fine

Also, do a scan just to be sure

I'm not sure how to turn it back on; I get this message.

I'm not sure where to go from there.

You are using Avast. Windows Defender turns itself off when you use a different antivirus product. This is its designed way of doing things - Defender is a baseline product that doesn't need to run if there is another AV.

so that means i am going to have to use a 3rd party malware program then?

I ask this as i can't really fallback on Avast as it is the free version.

The free version of Avast is reliable and good enough. If you're worried and want a good second opinion, I can recommend Hitman Pro (It's actually free for 30 days with no limitations).

When starting a scan, it asks for registration. You do not have to fill this out to scan, only to remove anything it finds. Then again, It's just an email address and they don't send you spam.

malware and antivirus is not the same.

avast is fine.

malwarebytes is fine.

just enable scan for rootkits within malwarebytes and do a scan in malwarebytes and a scan in avast, thats it. you dont need windows defender (youve told us youre using avast AFTER i told you to enable windows defender because i didnt knew youre using a antivirus (thats why i suggested bitdefender but avast ist totally fine)

just post the results of your scans here

Huh you are probably onto something. It would be nice if it had a timestamp or something on it; so i know when it was added.

The results were no threats detected.
