I do it through my BIOS on a MSI z97 PC-MATE, speedfan wouldnt do it as good.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

BIOS is the way to go. Speedfan is actually terrible IMO.

BIOS is the way to go. Speedfan is actually terrible IMO. 

 

If you know how to set it up properly, Speedfan does a much better job than the BIOS and is far easier to make adjustments and customize. You cannot tie a specific fan or fans to run on a custom fan curve based on GPU temps alone through the BIOS.   ;)

 

If you have an Asus motherboard, you need to get rid of Fan Xpert in AI suite or it will interfere with Speedfan. 

 

Speedfan is awesome. You just need to know how to use it properly. You also don't need 4 pin PWM fans to have full control over a fan's speed range. Works just as well with 3 pin fans.

To each, his/her own. ;)

 

I just like having full control and automatic control (turn any fan(s) off/on, ramp up/down, based on GPU temps or CPU temps (or both)) and not have to turn knobs or push buttons. Set it and forget it.
