would love to have some jumbo raid-5 to use for backups, since doing weekly backups takes WAY too much space, but funds are limited.

OS: OCZ vertex 4  256GB, for speed and main applications, I try to keep it under 1/2 full to maximise performance and longevity of the flash

Data WD 3TB Green: used for media storage and other data, bought for cheap mass storage solution.

I currently have a 500GB WB Blue hard drive and I store all my games from Steam, as you can tell 500 GB is not enough and I just don't have the money to buy another one at the moment as I am using all my money for college (graphics design and java coding). I store all my music on Cloud services so all of my memory goes to Games and more games. (PC parts: i5-4600K, XFX Radeon HD 7950, Corsair HX850, Phantom 410, 16gb Corsair vengeance, 500GB HDD, Corsair H80i water cooler). Thanks Linus.

i used a 120 SSD OCz  boot/program drive for speed, a 240 samsung SSD for games, a westren digtal 750gb black drive for older games and a seagate 1tb for storage(though its pretty much full)

Currently running with an 840 250 Gb for Boot and Games thought about going for a 120 Gb but I wanted the extra room and didn't want to pay the premium for going pro as Read Speeds are most important for me, In addition I have a 1 Tb Hitachi for larger files. It was my boot drive before I got the ssd.

I run a 120GB Crucial M4 for my OS and few things, chose it as i felt it'd be a reliable choice and because i like Crucial, for my storage i have a 1TB and a 2TB Hitachi HDD, both witch got for a good deal tho i also like Hitachi i feel a bit more comfortable with them, i have not had rely any issues with them tho i have had bad experiences with WD dieing exceptionally fast numerous different times, and seagate idk so i been just sticking with my Hitachi drives, tho i wouldent mind trying some Reds see if i fair better luck, when choosing drives i tend like reliability more so then performance.

Got a WD 1tb blue due to the cheap price... same with the regular Samsung 840 250gb SSD... cheaper but slower write... but it's an SSD for my OS (sweet sweet 2 second boot). Now that I'm paying attention to PC componets sales, I'm kind of regretting getting them too soon, but I'm happy with my parts!

I have a 500gb hard drive in my laptop with a 128gb ssd. i have the 500gb because ssd's are to expensive for that Kind of storage, plus they were on sale and the 2.5 1tb wasn't out yet so it was all i could get, pretty much.i have almost filled it with no back up :(. i have the ssd for my boot drive because windows 7 can be slow to start up and i want to keep optimal performance up. I also keep some programs on there like Photoshop, light room and my video editing software.

I run two 2TB Seagate Barracuda's. They were the cheapest option for me as I had one from a previous PC. I also have this much storage for my games, movies, TV shows, and pictures. If I had the money, I'd get an SSD for a boot and application drive and use the HDDs for storage.

My computer currently contains:

 

128GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD

2TB Seagate Barracuda

1TB WD Green

 

WHY:

 

Vertex 4:

I bought an OCZ Petrol to install all my games to. That failed after a couple months, but I never got around to RMAing it. A few months ago, I finally sent it in, and I got a Vertex 4 as replacement. Currently it is my boot drive and where I keep all my programs. I bought my original Petrol because I was inexperienced with building computers at the time, and the guy who sold it to me recommended it as a cheap SSD.

 

2TB Seagate Barracuda:

I keep all my files on here. Anything that won't benefit from an SSD gets dumped on here. This includes music, backups, and pretty much everything except for movies/TV. I got this because the sales clerk recommended it, and I needed a large storage drive.

 

1TB WD Green:

This is an apple-branded drive I rescued from my Apple Time Capsule (think router with single-drive NAS) after the power supply failed. I keep all my movies and TV shows on here. I got this because I had literally nothing else I could cram into it.

I use a WD 40GB IDE drive for the OS cause clearly i dont have any other available hard drive to use and a Seagate 1TB USB 2.0 as an external HDD for storage (music projects, movies etc.) Yesterday a friend of mine gave me a spare WD Caviar 80GB Sata drive and ill upgrade to that asap for better boot up speed!!

I am currently building my new pc after my 750gb laptop just died. For my new pc I have a Samsung 840 series 120gb 2.5 inch SATA SSD for my boot drive with my os and a couple of games I decided to get this one as from my research it was the best one i could afford and was recommended on tech forums.

For my storage I have seagate barracuda 3.5 inch 2TB 7200RPM 64MB 6GB/S internal SATA HDD I was originally going to but WD black 1TB but this one was cheaper and more storage.

I have a 64GB SSD because I want my os to boot up fast and it was the cheapest one I could find. It was on sale :)

Then I have a 500GB HDD for my games and programs. I used to only have this. Not sure what harddrive it is.

I also have a 1TB HDD for my documents, songs, movies, pictures, and downloads. I got this from a friend because he wasn't using it (for some strange reason)

It's starting to get a bit crowded on the 500GB so I would love to get another harddrive so that I can put my games/programs on the 1TB instead of the 500GB

Im using a homebrew server for mass storage \ backups. Up to this point I have had bad luck with a few large capicity drives.. . I recently had to re-install windows only to realize my real problem was two  faulty hard drives. I run these drives because of cost. most drives were purchased when HDD pricing was at an all time low . I need the maximum amount of storage my dollar can buy . Typically I wont spend more than $100 on a HDD, funny enough I dont mind spending money on good SSD.

 

I do understand, you really get what you pay for -- sometimes

 

I like to archive photos, movies, music, games, docs so I need a fairly large robust solution.

 

Powered by a i3-3220 + asus p67 pro

 

1x 80GB WD raptor- boot ( 6 year old drive)

 

1x   2TB seagate  5400rpm ( hasnt failed yet. 2 years old)

 

2x  1TB hitachi deskstar 7200rpm ( 3 years old, one drive failed recently)

 

1x 750Gb seagate  7200rpm  ( 3 years old,  original failed after 1.5 years, replacement unit just failed recently)

 

 

Im currently looking for more reliable discs, but honestly I dont think I would ever pony up for reds, I have had good luck with entry level HDD's over time. I guess im a little naive.  although I am getting tired of losing data :)

Hey Linus! This is really depressing please help me out D:

My current set up is a 80GB Caviar SE from like the 90s.

You might ask: WHY DO YOU ONLY HAVE 80GBS!!!

Well my 1tb seagate barracuda corrupted and I was unable to repair it.. I've had this set up for to long now. PLEASE HELP ME LINUS! :'(

I store all my games on a 500gb WD passport.... Not the best but it's ok.

 

Why do I run this amazing configuration? Because I have no choice. I can't afford much as I have no job.

 

Please get me a new hard drive. It would make my year :')

1. I'm currently having 500GB WD Blue and a 120GB Samsung SSD as my boot drive. I chose this because I didn't need a lot of storage but wanted quick boot and application load. I started to run out of space these days (too much porn?) because I got into some games that took a lot of space.

1. I am In my teens and I am building a desktop for me & my dad (first build). It currently has 1tb hdd and 120gb ssd. It is for my dad who makes videos and my who records them. The extra space would be helpful.

I store my important stuff in an external Hard Drive (Seagate Backup Plus 3TB) because I'm currently using a laptop (only has 677gb), and the laptop doesn't have enough storage. What I would like to do is build a new computer, so this will help tremendously.

I currently have a 120 GB SSD that I use of OS and for most of my basic programs. The boot time was the biggest selling point for me and I must say it's incredible.

 

I then have a 2TB HDD for all my music, games, etc. Basically, I like to have all 130 of my Steam games installed at all times so I can play whatever I want, whenever I want. I also capture video game footage for YouTube, so it helps for storing the raw video data until I can edit it.

 

In short, I run my setup for quick boots and exceptional storage.

I have a samsung 840 none pro 120gb SSD as my boot drive just for the OS and some games. I chose this SSD simply because I put my old Crucial M4 in my gf's old laptop and samsung 840 was on sale when i was looking for a replacement. Like many people say, once u go for SSD, u'll never go back. I also have a WD 2TB green drive for storage. Again, I bought it because of the price, I just needed a large capacity not speed for my storage.

I use a western digital caviar blue 500 gb 7200 rpm drive and a 320 gb hard drive that I got out of an old PC of my parents. I got the WD 500 gb because it was cheap and they are very reliable.

I have a very strange storage setup

 

It starts normally, i use a 120GB samsung 840 as a boot drive and i also have all my programs that start at boot on there purely for speed

then my mass storage gets really weird, my friends dad maintains a server, he took home a blade of a supercomputer from the weather bureau and he gave me 2 1TB server grade hard drives from the blade, they are quite slow but oh so reliable.

AS it happens i am about to setup a NAS for the household and having some WD reds would just be awesome.

I have an OCZ Agility 3 256GB SSD as my boot drive where I store programs and as many games as I can fit; I use this so that all my programs and games load fast and to improve the general experience.

I also have a 1TB Seagate HDD for my files, music and videos so that I don't have to worry about storing massive files on my SSD.
