Hello!

Atm i have a 250GB (233GB left :D ) Sata II Seagate as my main and only drive. I can't connect more HDDs or SSDs to my system, because my power supply is very old and it can only handle one SATA device. I don't have money for new PCU or HDD/SSD.
From about three mounts months i've been using my PC for 3D animation and video rendering and i can feel how my Seagate is slowing my work. I also love playing games but i have to pick them wisely, because i don't have space for all my games at the same time.

I have a 1TB internal HDD and a 300GB external HDD.  I have the internal HDD split into two different partitions, one for OS and critical programs and another just for games, so that should I ever need to wipe my OS and reinstall, I won't lose the data on the other partition (I hope).  I have the external HDD for backing up very important files, whether it be music, documents, or video, though I have to be very picky because 300GB doesn't get you far these days.  I run with this setup because it's all I can afford, as I'd love to have more storage space.

At the moment, I am running a Samsung 830 128GB SSD as my bootdrive, and for a lot of my regular-used programs. I got this drive, because I read a lot of really good reviews on it, and then my dad gifted it to me as a Christmas-present. For my movies/music/photos I use a Samsung HD154UI 1.5TB drive. I use this drive, because it came with my last pre-build PC (not going there again), and when I built my first DIY, I didn't see any reason to NOT use it. For my games I use a recently-bought WD Black 1TB drive. Before I got the Black, my games were also on the Samsung HD154UI, but I was very close to the limit, so I decided to get a new drive - and when I was buying a new one anyways, I didn't see any reason not to buy a high-performance one! So, all in all, I'm pretty happy with my current setup. I am planning to buy a NAS soon though, so a couple of Reds wouldn't hurt me one bit ;-)

I am currently running on one intel 320 ssd with 120 gb storage, the reason for that is at the time it were cheap, cinda good speeds and it was a reliable ssd. I also have a 120 gb sandisk extreme ssd, the reason for that were that I was using all of the ssd storage, because it were faster than my hdd, my friend also said some good words about sandisk and i bought it. Last but not least, i have a 500gb western digital caviar blue for videos, large programs and many, many pictures!

In my desktop, I run a 1TB WD Green drive that I stole out of a broken MyBook Live as a boot drive. I also have 3 old IDE drives adapted to SATA, all around 200GB capacity. I have a Seagate Barracuda 150GB drive that lives permanently in a hot swap bay as I've run out of drive cages, and a 2.5" seagate laptop drive in there too. Across all those drives, I have a grand total of 4.7GB free.

The reason for all this madness is school work and work work unfortunately means storing massive files and after having 3 1TB drives die on me in the same month (not backed up), I can't afford to replace them right now, so I run a load of drives I've scrounged off people.

Thanks for doing this awesome giveaway too, and props to WD.

As my boot drive, I'm using my 221GB HDD, as it's not too slow, and the speed that my computer boots does not matter that much to me. As my general storage drive, (Games also) I use my 1.81TB HDD, as it's faster that my boot drive, and there's a fair amount of room on there. I would have bought an SSD for my build, but it was simply out of my budget. 1.81TB HDDs can also be quite pricey, but I received it as a present off of my cousin. The setup I currently have at the moment seems to work fine, but a WD red would be quite wonderful to add to it.

I run with a boot SSD for the boot speed and then have a raid 10 with 4 1TB HHD's  that backup the SSD and are my data drives. With this i get the amazing speeds that come with SSD's and the reliability of Raid 10 backups.

I have had a Asus X54C laptop for the past year or so, and it originally came with a 320 GB Seagate 5400RPM HDD. It was fine, for about a week. Then, the hard drive decided to die, and I took it out, and recovered the data of the old drive, and bought a 120 GB Samsung 830 and installed it in there and everything has been fine since. I also use a 8GB flash drive for school and other work.

Just built my new system and it's running a 240 Gb Corsair Neutron GTX for OS/Games, bulk storage (meaning Steam Backups) is on a WD Black 1TB and a 1TB Seagate external USB

I have an old Dlink 323 with a mirrored pair of 500GB WD's (retirement is imminent on this one!) that is used for photo and video sharing/backup.

It is now being replaced with a new Synology DS 213 sporting a pair of mirrored 3 TB WD RED's (After too much research, the Reds seemed to be the logical drives to drop in the Synology, it helped that NCIX had them on sale!)

A nice fat 4TB would certainly be a handy addition :)

Good info on your channel Linus and company, it has helped me with my purchasing decisions!

And just cause...

New Rig

i7 4770k

Asus Gryphon with Armor

16 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro

Corsair 350D

H100i CPU cooler

a pair of EVGA overclocked 760's

All stock fans replaced with Noctua's

Keep up the good work!

I have Samsung 840 120GB boot SSD and for my applications on my Hackintosh because I wanted boot times to be quick, and I was compelled by the performance upgrades and speed improvements that an SSD provides. I also have a 500GB Seagate Barracuda drive for general storage. I went with Seagate because I've had better experience with their drives...I've had two WD drives crash on me in the past...probably haven't said that in this thread.

I am currently running a Samsung 840 250GB in my MacBook Pro (the speeds of SSDs are just amazing and no I'm not a hipster, planning on upgrading to a hackintosh) and a "ghetto-NAS" with an external 2TB HDD from CnMemory hooked up to a Raspberry Pi. Unfortunately are 2TB too little for my main usage of my NAS (streaming movies/series over DLNA) and my Raspberry Pi can barely handle it. I would love to win the Reds and run them in RAID1 in a proper Server like a Synology Diskstation.

I am currently using an Ultrabook with a 500GB HDD with an additional 32GB SSD because it is - in my opinion - the perfect solution for now. I wanted to have fast boot times and fast loading times for my most used programs but also enough space on my laptop for my music and video library.

Additional to that, I have two external 2,5" 500GB hard drives that I carry around. I chose 2,5" over 3,5" because mobility is very important to me right now but I really want to buy a 3,5" WD Red as an external stationary drive at home where I can store backups on.

Boot: Crucial M4 256GB SSD (SATA 6Gb/s)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM (SATA 3Gb/s)

I got the 256GB M4 because it was during the huge price drops that SSDs were having at the time; deal was too good to pass up.

For my storage, that's where I put all my music, movies, games, and a lot of hi-res images for my artist portfolio as well as Adrobe project files

...basically...a lot of important stuff that I cannot lose!!

I am running out of space on my 1TB, so I definitely need something new that will last quite a long time!

I am running a 128 GB ssd as my boot drive and a WD 2TB black as my storage. A friend recommended this setup to me so that I have fast boot times and lots of storage. I could use another drive for backups.

My storage: I'm currently running a DIY unRAID NAS box in an old tower case with a mix-n-match set of drives (mostly shucked from externals I picked up over time). Got a total of 14TB of usable storage which is nearly full and I could really use some bigger drives to swap in. I originally chose unRAID because the DIY aspect appealed to me as did the ability to easily expand the storage with whatever drives happen to be cheap/available. I'm currently looking at building a new server using Ubuntu and ZFS.

I currently only run one WD 1TB Blue HDD because I thought that would be adequate storage (at the time) and it was a good price.

Hey, Linus!

Thanks for doing yet another giveaway and thanks to the sponsers.
I'm running my Curcial 128gb M4 as my boot drive for sexy operation speeds, and boot times. I have a 2TB Media drive for the bulk of movies, documents, and music (And since it's only used to view and listen to music and movies, the low RPM does just fine). And lastely my 1TB Samsung drive I picked up a couple of years back for cheap - currently being used as a dedicated Steam, Origin and games drive.
That 4TB red drive would come in handy as I've been looking at getting a drive to use as a Back-up, which I seriously need.

Thanks again! Have fun at PAX.

My storage configuration is thus:

Dekstop: SSD (64GB) for quicker boot times, another SSD (356GB) to try and make load times quicker for games, with a WD Black (1TB) for storage, Also modified the folders on the c:\users directory to actually live on the 1TB.

For the File Server: A bunch of HDD's, all the cheapest largest drives money can find. as to why? I am a hoarder of virtual data.
