WD Red 4TB GIVEAWAY!

LinusTech

1. When I built my computer 3 years ago SSD-s were still small size and expensive so I chose 1TB Samsung F3 HDD on recommendation for cheap, reliable and silent HDD. Few months after that, I bought a 2TB WD Green for storage. Both have been working perfectly for 3 years. Now that SSD-s became "cheaper"/larger, two months ago a bought a Samsung 840 Basic 250GB. It is silent and fast, and I could afford it :) Reads are excellent and writes are Ok, and since I don't write huge amounts of data I am very happy with it. I installed Win 8 Pro on it and it just flies. Boot time is way under a minute.

That's it. I'm extremely happy with my setup.

Future plans: maybe creating a NAS for the entire house.

EDIT: I also have an external 1TB WD My Book for recording IPTV

1: I was using a 2nd hand PC that came with a Barracuda 160GB HDD. Then i decided to build one and after months of gathering resources i've build my own PC thou i moved the HDD from the old one. The PC didn't feel new because of the speed of the Storage device. Then i decided it's time to dive in to the SSD market and bought the best one atm : the Samsung 840 Pro (128gb). My thought process was "I want something that i can probably use in the future as well and with this 5 yr warranty it's like it's going to live longer than me :) " Honestly i wasn't a storage freak until recreantly there was no more space in my (total) 280 gig config. So i am currently waiting for some money income to go and buy some HDD. Probably going to go with the Red because you guys recommend it so much and Slick bought 4 of them (that's a big tell right there :D). For OS and games installs the SSD is awesome , for everything else the HDD is good enugh. I'll go as far as to say that HDD speed isn't enugh for games anymore, i'm tired of waiting one minute to load a particular game when my ssd does it in 5-10 seconds.

In My pc I am currently using a 120gb Sandisk Extreme SSD as my boot drive and 2 x 1tb drives in Raid 0 for storage. I'm also using an old PC as a media server with 2 x 2tb WD red's in raid 1.

I bought the SSD when it was A GB a Dollar (AUD) and bought if for the speed. The two Storage HDD's are just for programs and one was the boot before the the ssd, and the 2nd one was from a portable HDD (WD Green)

The media server is dads old core 2 duo PC. He upgraded to Ivy Bridge and we had a old pc lying around so I bought some Red's for it, and all my non recoverable data is on it + videos and music to stream

I'm using the drives I have in my signature for their respective uses. However, I only have 500Gb for backing up and such and it's an issue to find space most of the time.

I got the Momentus 500Gb a long time ago as a portable HDD, the sata to usb bridge failed a few months out of warranty and I simply put it into my build, it works fine :)

I got the XT when SSDs were very expensive, and I had to sell off my older barracuda to afford this when it was released. It served me as a boot driver for the longest time, until I finally replaced it with my current boot drive, a 120GB Samsung SSD.

These drives are really good for what they do, but ~1TB storage is not enough for my files and games, and i'll be picking up a new HDD when I can afford one, hopefully I'll win this.

Thanks very much for the giveaway.

I'm running a Crucial M4 128GB SSD and a WD Green 2TB hard drive. From what I've read the Crucial SSD at the time I bought it was generally considered one of the best and most reliable SSDs out there. It has my OS, most used programmes and 2 or 3 games on it. I chose the WD Green drive for storage and the rest of the games, where loading time isn't as important. The reason why I got this relatively low performance drive was mainly because I really value a quiet rig, but it was also pretty cheap and for the stuff I store on it high performance simply doesn't matter.

Currently i'm running a 128GB ssd from Kingston for my OS and all the frequently used programs, and an WD red 3TB for all my other storage i do this because i want to have some reliable storage (even without raid) and i use wd for that because i love there warranty and support.

I also building a server atm with 4 x 500gb drives, but it would be nice to run some WD's in it.

Oh man, If i won this I would rip out the seagate drives in my freenas and instantly replace them with those awesome wd reds. Its a shame though I only went with seagate because 3TB was $90 at the time when 3TB WD reds were almost $200 a pop or completely sold out. Anyways here is my twitter link:

I'm running a 64 gb SSD as my primary since I wanted a faster boot and load of essential programs while getting something cheap, I have 3x internal 2 TB drives because I use my system as a backup for all my friends, myself and my family. I also have one 2 TB external for when I'm travelling with my laptop.

the reason I didn't go raid is because I bought my hard drives individually as I got money and had data on each one as soon as I got them.

1. Right now I have a Samsung 840 pro 256gb SSD and two WD Blue 500gb in raid 0 that I salvaged from my previous computer. I just built a PC from scratch and I kind of skimped on the HDDs since I have my previous ones still. I really wanted to try the SSD + HDD for storage combo and I do not regret getting an SSD!

Our family computer has 1TB hard drive which seems to be enough since it's not even half full yet. It contains OS, music, games and pictures but not much videos not to mention movies. The computer had originally 200GB hard drive which is still in computer but never used. The old drive still has some value information in it but it's not accessable. We had to get new windows when the motherboard died and the old windows key was not founded. Now the new windows doesn't want to open the old encrypted files. (Atleast that's how I understood my dad's explanation.) So yeah, some backups would have been nice :)

I'm also going to build my own computer soon. I think of getting 1TB WD Black there since it would be fast for a hard drive and big enough for my own use. I have considered also a SSD for OS and some games, maybe 120GB Samsung 840 Evo, but I try to keep the cost down.

My desktop has a Samsung 840 pro 256GB, I got it because I wanted something fast for my OS and to be able to hold some games and programs that I use more frequently. It also has a 1TB WD Black since I wanted a drive with some storage space but still relatively fast and cheap.

I have two external HDD's that i use for backups, storage of videos and other random files.

My laptop has a 750GB HDD of some sort, not entirely sure what it is but it's very slow, would be nice to get a SSD for it. I have it because it came with the laptop.

Love giveaways! So i have an OCZ Vertex 4 128GB for boot and main programs because its cheap, fast and reliable.. i have a 2tb barracuda for everything else and 500gb blue for after effects cache and video editing files. on my server i have another 2tb to back up to as well as a 1tb for random stuff and another 1tb external for moveable storage.. All are as cheap as can be but as good as i can be.. But would love more storage and the great reliability for my server and many pc's around the house!

1.: Intel SSD 120GB 330 series - Bought it because of awesome reviews and a recommendation by a friend. I'm using it for anything that profits of fast drive access like Photoshop, GIMP, Windows itself and much more.

2.: Seagate ST1000DM003 1TB - Bought it because of an excellent price / review balance. :)

3.: Hitachi Travelstar HTS543232L9A300 320GB - Taken from an old, broken Acer notebook, so I'm basically using it just because "it was there".

hmm well doesn't hurt to try with 1 entry i guess, and more storage is more better of course.

I have 1 gaming PC with 5x 1TB WD black drives. These run on the onboard raid controller of my 990fx. i have 2 drives and 3 drives in 2 raid-0 arrays. I did this for game recording to have as little lag as possible.

As a boot drive i have a corsair performance pro 256GB SSD, for obvious reasons i'd say.

I also have a HTPC which also works as a NAS and webserver, and if needed, gameserver.

In this PC i have 2x WD raptor 150GB drives in raid-0 as boot drive. These are connected to an Areca 1200 pci-e raid controller. reasons, speed and response time. Dont want to waste the money on an SSD for a server and i had these left over :).

Next to those i have 8x WD red 2TB drives in raid-6. These hold all my media files and most important files for backup. These 8 drives are connected to my Areca 1880i pci-e raid controller. To have some write performance of course. This raid array i monitor very closely these days as i have had 2 drives fail in the past (those were WD blacks which i have since replaced with reds). why so much space? I apparently watch an insane amount of tv shows, they take space :P.

Finally, for some reason, i have 1 2TB toshiba drive running from the motherboard controller. On this drive i store some backup stuff from my gaming pc and laptop. actually want to turn this into 2 drives in raid-1. but i dont have the room for another drive in my case :(. (that's 11 drives in 1 case, not a lot of cases can hold that many (more))

My laptop holds 1 seagate hybrid 500GB drive and 1 OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD. It's an I7 laptop with 8GB which i felt deserved an awesome storage solution. And im very glad i did because that thing is so fast it's booted up before the windows 7 logo even shows up and completely logged in and ready before the windows boot up sound is even played. the 500GB i keep for some data storage, which is plenty as i got tons of space on the server ;).

hope i win. Probably won't, it's ok.

I have no signature

1. I'm running a 512GB Crucial M4 SSD as my Boot & Programm Drive, because i was able to pick it up for half of the price when it way out, which was jsut an such amazing deal, that i literally had to get this baby. It's also paired with a Western Digital Caviar Green (original Caviar series Drive) 500GB drive, which i got from my parents when i bought my PC 5 years ago. I'm still running this drive because its reliable, fast enought for the things I store on it, and just a good Value. If I would change it out then for one or two of those sweet Red drives with more Capacity then both my Drives actually have. The drive wouldnt go into the dustbin then, I would use my current WD Caviar Green as External drive then, just to keep it alive :)
