1 x 64GB Crucial M4 SSD - For OS

2 x 1TB WD Blue Raid 0 - Used to store my games

1 x 3TB WD Green - Stores multimedia and backup of games

1 x  1TB Samsung spinpoint F3 - Currently not doing that much

The green drive was given to me by my brother so i use it. I got the blue drives because they are cheap and fast for what I need them for. The Samsung was my first 1TB drive that I bought and it's been running solid since. The SSD is still my first SSD, been running great for awhile.

I am currently building a desktop from parts from an old PC (tight on budget) to run as a 24/7 server. It has an E8400 with 6GB of DDR2 RAM. I am using a Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB as a boot drive as I got it second hand and cheap online. The SSD offers great speed with the system running Windows 8. All these are enclosed in an Antec Three Hundred case. I am looking to expand my storage by including several WD Red drives to store all my pictures and videos.

I have 2 pcs in my room

my main one has

  • 120gb ocz agility 3
  • 120gb kingston hyper x
  • 2 tb WD caviar black
  • 250gb 7200rpm drive

I originally had one ssd and found i filled it pretty quickly with software and VMs so i upgraded to a second 120gb ssd. I chose these SSDs because they seemed to be good value options at the time of purchase. the 2TB black stores games and all of my personal files. i do a fair bit of video editing so 2tb was the right amount of storage for handling large files. I use a black as I wanted the best performance and reliability from a large drive. and finally the 250gb drive of which i cant remember the manufacturer stores games.

my other pc has

  • 64gb crucial realSSD c300 from ebay
  • 500gb drive from ebay

Originally this didnt have an ssd and so I bought the c300 from ebay. it holds windows and my essential / commonly used software. the 500gb drive stores games and general data. I use this configuration because it is cheap (as both are from ebay lol)

I don't backup my pcs at all.  other than a few backups to dropbox, nothing is backed up because it would take roughly 4tb to backup both these systems. and this is precisely why I need a 4tb red :P

1. I have a desktop with a seagate barracuda 2tb drive honestly because it was the size I thought I needed for all my data at the cheapest price and because SSDs seemed too expensive :D

I have a Hitachi 160 GB 7200 RPM HDD for my boot drive and a Seagate 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD for storage drive. I got the Hitachi drive from a pre-assembled unit while I bought the Seagate drive for storage so I can store more files in a bigger drive. I bought it because it was cheap at that time(HDD Prices were high because of the flood in Thailand) and I've heard that Seagate has a great support and warranty.

Im using a Corsair Force GT 128GB Ssd as my primary boot drive, i love corsair products and how reliable they are. I also got this ssd with a great deal. Im aslo using Kingston Hyper X 128gb SSD as my secondary ssd drive, Because i love playing multiple games simultaneously it would simply not fit on my primary boot drive and i got it for $60!! Im also using a 2.5" 500GB seagate barracuda from my old laptop (may she rest in peace) It contains my windows user profile (also my old data from my old laptop including music, photos and videos) to save space on my SSDs, which accumulated over time!! and is currently full so i installed two WD Caviar Green one 1TB and one 1.5TB that i bought used, Me and the rest of my family save digitally purchased TV Shows and Movies on these drives! You cant simply have enough!

I use a WD 1TB external drive connected to a laptop to store just about everything, but mosly movies and tv shows. It replaced another 1TB drive which died horribly and took with it a couple of years worth of downloads. Not exciting, but true.

1. I currently have a 128 GB Samsung 830 SSD as my boot drive and a Seagate 2 TB hd to keep files and multimedia. The ssd was chosen because of the reviews and because it was on sale in a big promotion of an online retailer here in Italy. The seagate drive was choosen because... well, because I've always made computers with seagate drives, without any particular reason. I also use a 500 GB WD Green for backups. It's an internal drive, but I'm keeping it into a drawer and plug into a bay only when needed. :)

1. I'm simply using a 500gb wd green drive a friend of mine gave me because it was the list expensive choice I had. Rigth now I put everything on external usb drives but it's very impractical.

I run a file server, with a 3TB drive in one partition, and then a 1.5TB split into 4 drives, with these shared around the house. I then have two 2TB drives in a second PC to back the server up to, using FreeFileSync. I don't run a raid because I like backups on separate PCs if possible. If i set up a raid, it would be mainly for speed increases rather than for backups, as I find it restrictive and frustrating for a backup situation, as well as harder to upgrade as needed.

My main PC has a 64MB SSD for OS and usually a main game I play most, and then a 500GB general storage drive. The other PCs in the house are simply drone PCs for video and radio.

1) As my boot drive I use the one which has always been inside my MacBook Pro (FUJITSU MHV2100BH) so I didn't really chose it. What I bought conciously is a 2TB WD My Book Essential hard drive which is connected to a Raspberry Pi and is used quite obviously as a movie storage and an external backup. The reason of the purchase is related to the good compromise between price and quality.

Right now i am using an Adata SP600 64gb SSD for OS and a 1TB HDD for storage/programs and games!. The reason why i am using that SSD its cause it was what i could afford and it helped with the boot speed. I'll get a bigger SSD sometime cause i will like to put some of my games on it for faster load times!. :)

I am using a Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM. I purchased it off of newegg because it had the most reviews and I have a very tight budget. I use the hard drive for my OS and all of my data storage.

It would be amazing to win this WD red HDD since I'm running a 500 GB seagte HDD and its quite slow and is completely full the reason I got this is because I'm 14 and I don't have a job so it was pretty cheap at around $60 so it would be great of a won this WD 4 TB red HDD

Hey, welcome to the forum. You should repost this in the New builds and planning section of the forum. You'll get a much better response from the guys who use it. Linus and team don't often directly reply to forum posts but you never know. I've included the link below to make it easier for you to post in the right section.

Enjoy the forum

http://linustechtips.com/main/forum/18-new-builds-and-planning/

I didnt realize i would get that response, I believe i did accurately describe my storage situation pretty well though and why i would love to win a WD drive.

I know im a new user in the forums though so i appreciate you for guiding me.

Hi I run a corsair Force 3 SSD 120Gb for a boot drive (for quick boot ups) and a 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD For storageand keeping all my important files but it's almost at capacity witch is becoming a real pain. I also back up on to a 1TB Western Digetal external but ti is a bit on the small side.

I am interested in a NAS and this asem giveaway will make it possible to more securely backup all my important files.

You did, but I was referring to this part

Gigabyte g1 sniper 5 (love the path lighting and the op amps)...(may be a bit too expensive though)

gtx 780 lightning (until you guys show the galaxy 780 coming up)

nzxt 750 PS (i know you are always saying you dont need more than 500w but its for upgradability)

trying to find a swifttech 280mm rad but may have to go X60 or h110 still dont know

samsung 240gb ssd

4770k

Build planning is the best place for that part, but I understand your reasoning for it in your post. I hope you enjoy the forum, you'll get plenty of good advice from the guys here. I did when I was building my current PC

If I were a bird, I'd fly into a ceiling fan.
