WD Red 4TB GIVEAWAY!

LinusTech

I am running a Samsung 840 PRO series 256GB SSD for my OS, and essential applications.  I am a video maker / music producer so those programs are prioritized and run directly off the SSD.  As well as 2 Western Digital Black 1TB HDD for all my music, videos, pictures, games, and non-essential applications.  I may eventually run those two 1TB drives in RAID 1 or 0, but for now they remain seperate as one of them has old files as it was running my OS before I upgraded to SSD.

3x 120gb vertex 3 Raid 1

1x 500gb WD harddrive (2.5" drive)

1x 3TB Seagate Backup plus.

50gb Cloud storage

My friend gave me his old vertex 3's and i had issues to trust their reliability due to their age. As rightfully so, two of them died recently, so on my last one now.

I do Photoshop and After Effects on occasion, so i have my 500gb WD as a scratch disk to reduce R/W on the ssd.

My system is silence optimized so to reduce heat and noise i used a laptop drive. Reliability and speed were not critical factors for my scratch disk usage scenario.

External drive (placed farther away to isolate noise) for movies/music/steam archive.

Cloud for critical documents accessible on the go and most importantly, security of being offsite.

I have 128gb ocz vertex 4 for boot drive and 1TB samsung spinpoint f3  for storage.

HDD is the loudest thing in my pc so it would be great if i could build a NAS with some WD red drives and take out the HDD from my pc.

I am using a Intel X25-M 80GB for my boot drive but I was running out of space so I got a Samsung 830 256GB for just my games. For storage I have a 6+ year old Seagate 320GB for temporary storage until I back up the files to my external Seagate GoFlex 2TB. Which I only use occasionally to hopefully prolong the lifespan for as long as possible.

I'm running a Kingston HyperX 3k 240GB SSD as my boot drive but only  for Windows and my developmenttools like Adobe CS MasterCollection. For my bigger programs and especially my games on Steam, Origin and Uplay I use a WD Caviar Blue 500GB HDD and for downloads and some manual backups a WD Caviar Green 500GB HDD. the green one also hosts my Owncloud folder. I already thought about getting a WD Green 2TB HDD but just dont have the money for it. Although it's not required here I have to admit that I've only used WD drives since I began working with computerparts at the age of 6. my first drive was a WD 30GB IDE drive and since then I always recommendet and used WD. I'm also planning on a NAS (maybe a custombuild running NAS4Free or FreeNAS OS) with WD Red drives (definetly need a decent mediashare and backup solution).

I am currently running a samsung 840 250GB SSD, and that is all.... I chose the setup because this was my first pc build, and I didn't have a huge budget. Unforunatly I am almost out of storage already, with only 30GB remaining. I also chose this setup because it was relativly cheap considering its an SSD, and I really wanted something fast to put my OS on!

Intel i5 4670k @4.2 GHz, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, Asus Sabertooth Z87, Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600 MHz 16GB, Powercolor Red Devil RX 580 8GB, EVGA SuperNOVA NEX650G, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, NZXT Switch 810, Asus MX34VQ, Asus MX239H.

I am currently running a WD Caviar Blue 1 TB as my main drive with a 2TB Seagate external for media that is full. My reasoning for the drives I use are the WD is reliable and very cost effective and the Seagate external I bought on sale when I was using a PC that had a main drive with only 320 gigs of storage space.

PC 1:

I'm using a Samsung 840 250GB SSD for my boot drive which has Mac OS X 10.8.4 on it (Yes it's a hackintosh) which I'm using seen as it was a mere $20 more than the 128GB Samsung 840 Pro I was originally intending to buy.

I've also got a WD Blue 1TB which is severed into 3 partitions: Windows Boot Drive (300GB), Backups(300GB), Main storage(400GB). I chose it because it is cheap, quite, fast and not too loud.

PC 2:

I'm using a 120GB Intel 330 with Windows 7 on it for my boot drive, which I chose at the time for it's awesome speeds and reliability,

I also have 4x3TB WD Black in RAID 10, which I chose for once again, their price, and speed. I use those drives for my game collection and for my 1.2TB of photos, videos and music.

I have a old 500GB WD, about 4 years old when i got my computer. Back then 500GB was most cost effective so that is the main reason. Now i use this as boot drive, softwares and about 100GB of cloud synced personal files.

Then i have another 1TB Seagate that i got about 2 years ago for storing my movies, songs, games... I got this HDD for the same reason as the WD one, it was the most cost effective.

I don't feel the need for SSD, i put my PC in hybrid sleep (hybrid hibernate) and it wakes up in 1 second. I also have a UPS that can keep the PC in sleep for weeks.

Hi,

I got a WD ShareSpace 4TB also know has the WDA4NC40000N...

I choose this one because it was under 1000$, have 4 bays and got a Gig network connection.

In Raid 5 it gave me around 3To of disk space...

When i got it 5 years ago it was really good ... WD RED Drive would be a great replacement ;)

Thanks

Im running a Ocz 120gb ssd, mostly because i wanted fast boot times and a fast drive for some videos. I also run an old 2.5" drive, 500 gb, because it has almost all my software and some steam stuff. I got a 320gb WD from my boss for free...lucky, i got it for all steam stuff. All the drives are full to the brim and i think i might get fired soon...long story.

1. I've been getting by  mainly on SSD, tho not by choice. My WD black 1TB was DOA, and by the time I installed it to test, I was out of warranty period.

So now I have dual 120 SSD's in Raid 0 as my boot drive and most of my Steam games as well as League to get maximum performance. And an intel 240 SSD for some extra storage and for low performance operations (since it's not on a sata 3 port). The WD 1TB sits lifeless in the case... as a silent reminder to me to test parts soon after getting them.

I have 1 160Gb Kingston SSD with my OS on it, 1 WD 500Gb Black for my games, 1 WD 1Tb Black for my backup. Also I'm running a personnal server with over 3Tb of data on a single drive that is maxed out. Some WD Red in raid 1 for redundancy would take care of my storage problems. B)

I am running 3 PCs with included HDDs :

The First one - Octo - has a single 3TB Caviar Green and is my Data-Center.

It is not a Server, but it carries my Backups and the data of my sister.

The reason why I went with a single HDD for a 2500.- PC is, that I did not want to have an SSD, because I do not thrust SSDs on the long run.

The secound one - CoolingMachine - is some kind of a server.

He carries all my data, which is also on Octo as a Backup.

He has a Corsair Force 3 120 GB SSD for Boot drive, becaus I had no use for this SSD. Originally it was ment to be part of Kazumi (I will get to her in a moment - she is also a PC), but it was not big enough for her.

Also a 3TB WD my Book is attached to CoolingMachine. It has all my data on it, so I have it also mobile. This is the most up to date version of my data.

Furthermore it has an 80 GB internal HDD for Download and Desktop Folder part of it is a "Server HDD". 40GB are for personal use, while 40GB are for moving data along my three PCs.

The third one is Kazumi, which I do not like to speak about the Hardware. The reason is, that there is no sence why you build PC like this. I did it as an additional experience, but all inside her Cosmos II is secure.

She carries also a Backup of my whole data, because the data on Octo is encrypted and runs only with the disk unlocker. If one of them fails, the data is lost.

The other, something like 5 PCs, I do not cover, because they are not in daily use.

I am currently using a Samsung 840 SSD 250GB for the OS, school work and other heavy programs with the need of load speed to lower the wait time. Also my other 2 hard drives are Seagate 1.5TB to store games from steam, origin and ubisoft and WD Green 3TB for photos, music, video.

I use a 500GB WD Blue, because I'm poor and can't afford anything else. Also my 2nd one. First one died after a few days.

Had WD in my old laptop too, which died. I've never really had much with WD if I'm honest. Never bought seagate because WD has been cheaper and/or it came stock.

I currently run two 500Gb Seagate Barracudas in Raid 0. I choose this because although ive always wanted to incorporate an SSD (boot drive and what not) but i cant afford to at the minute. I know it gives less reliability but it was the cheaper option at the time and now i regret the decision.
