I've always found it weird that people donate, like, they have a plethora of free sites yet they choose to give money to an attention seeking girl. I wouldn't mind having female protagonists. In fact, a few of my favorite all-time games have a female protagonist. But if a developer doesn't want to have a lead female character, they should not be forced to do so. And if the developer wants their lead protagonist to be a mysoginistic asshole (GTA 5) they should be free to do so.

The question is, why are they obligated to do so! What right do you have to dictate the writers of this game what they should write or not. Maybe they just didn't feel like writing a female lead. Or it would've totally fucked up the synergy the three protagonists have.

My view on that is if you let the player customize the character then yes add female as an option, if the game has a stringent character (like Geralt in witcher games) don't bother adding customization and pick whichever you originally had planned for regardless, since the character drives the plot.

If the game is set up like that, it is usually written very ambiguously and it won't matter. Like playing Saints Row 3 or 4, it slightly alters the conversations but not by much.

 

Mass Effect is pretty much in the same ballpark. And I even played femshep there because Jennifer Hale delivers her lines 10x better than Mark Meer.

I'm one of those! I played TF2 for years and years, and have maybe 70 friends on my steam friends list from those days, and about 25 of them are female, it's only now that I'm actually realising that, despite me being in my late teens when I started playing TF2, I wasn't some super-horny perv with issues regarding female gamers, and a number of them I consider close friends now.

That would also work, also I have no issue with the protagonist being female to start with, the game just needs the character to be set if it wants the plot to be meaningful from the character's perspective, some games can pull off customization, but they need a weird structures like bioware games where the protagonist is referenced by last name, though not every company is bioware so they need more structure to make a coherent story/character.
