Fallout 4’s 1.3 Update is now available in beta for Steam users.

 

This beta update is a work in progress so before opting into the beta, back up your saved games.

 

To get the beta, you need to do the following:

1. Log into Steam
2. Right Click on Fallout 4 in your Library
3. Select Settings
4. Select Betas
5. A drop down menu will appear. Select Beta Update
6. Select OK.
7. Wait a few minutes and Fallout 4 should update.
8. When done, Fallout 4 should appear as Fallout 4 [beta] in your Library

If you decide you don’t want to run the Beta anymore, redo steps 1 – 4. At the drop down, select NONE – Opt out of all beta programs.

New Features

• New ambient occlusion setting, HBAO+
• New weapon debris effects (NVIDIA cards only)
• Added status menu for settlers in your settlements
• Added ability to rotate an object you are holding with left/right triggers and pressing down on left thumbstick lets you switch the rotating axis
• Improved "ESDF" keys remapping support while in Workshop mode"

 

 

 

IHMO, This is fucked. NV straightup don't care about competition anymore and I doubt there's gonna be much more time before they get smacked with an anti-competition lawsuit.

As I said, this is on an Nvidia card, presumably a good one. In the middle of nowhere and he's still dropping below 60 FPS. There's no reason the Skyrim engine should run this bad on modern hardware. It's just shitty, yet even Nvidia users are being affected by them wasting time on Nvidia effects before the game it's even on a stable state.

Damn.... The FPS is still all over the place in that video.... Assuming that a Geforce card is used to demo those effects. I expect a Geforce gpu to run this game with a more consistent fps than my 390x. Especially when this is a gameworks title. This is a mess. FPS goes on a roller coaster ride from 70 to 40. Beth would be better off optimizing this game instead of implementing useless features(Yes in this case, more debris is pretty useless)

Not nearly as much as Nvidia. Tomb Raider which is the only recent game that uses AMD's code runs well on all cards.

I don't know why not being happy about vendor specific effects in a game makes you a fanboy. I would be equally unhappy if something AMD only was implemented and I have a 390.

None, I still get fps drops. Though dropping shadows helps. I just played it on everything to the highest.

I believe in people who buy a product (nVidia) should get to enjoy said features that company brings. If they have only nVidia features, so be it. I see it as a plus, and wouldn't be mad at all if AMD did the same. If people want to complain about nVidia doing these things all the time, maybe they should be wise in who they choose to buy GPU's from.

I'm pretty sure PhysX would run well on AMD cards though if NVIDIA wanted it to. I don't know about other people, but if I had a company, I would be trying to set open standards for other companies to use - maybe it's cause I care about the industry and competition. NVIDIA likes to be super closed.
