Thought this was the best place to put this... Anyway, HOPEFULLY this weekend I will get my unfinished 3D printer out of the box of crap that it is in and work on it. It is made mostly from available/recycled materials, such as angle iron with holes in it, plywood, linear rods and motors from scanners/printers, etc.

Here is a quick partslist of things I am using that can be found online easy:

Controller: http://amzn.com/B00N1IX776

Heated bed: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111862533183

Hotend: http://www.filastruder.com/products/all-metal-e3d-v6-hotend

Power supply: http://amzn.com/B00DUGDQY8 (a good ATX PSU should do fine)

Here is a CAD drawing of the gantry in everyone's favorite CAD software, MS Paint.

I will try to post updates here every time I make progress, hopefully there are users here interested in the project.

Once finished, I will release plans and 3D models and stuff needed to make it.

Stay subscribed to the thread for updates!

I got my steppers off of ebay, I would have to find them. They are the same ones that come with the twpup 3D printer (although the one mounted ON the gantry is a much smaller one)

Where will you get the advanced circuitry?

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I'm sure you can run a laser engraver of an arduino I don't see why you couldn't do the same with a 3d printer given the correct libraries.

CPU: Intel 3570 GPUs: Nvidia GTX 660Ti Case: Fractal design Define R4  Storage: 1TB WD Caviar Black & 240GB Hyper X 3k SSD Sound: Custom One Pros Keyboard: Ducky Shine 4 Mouse: Logitech G500

yes, but a laser engraver won't grow on a tree

Looks like they're using a NEMA 17 form factor. I would be willing to the bet its the ones that they're selling on their site. Which are 1.8 degree stepping with 49N cm of force.

They're similar specs to the one I am using. Only difference is double the precision with 400 steps/revolution or 0.9 degree. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10846

Clone of the print-r-board. Its basically an arduino mega with motor controllers and other stuff

how much does that cost?

Could you DIY a CNC router? One that uses a regular wood router? I would love one but even the X-Carve is ridiculous in price.

Probably, I am almost certain that my existing controller and software could do it, just replace the printhead with a router

Guys... Its alive!

I know the bed is not heated

I know the enclosure is not heated

I know its not extruding enough plastic

I just threw a broken piece of acrylic on the bed, leveled it, threw in some old filament, and let everything run on the default settings. Plenty of work to do, but it is certainly a start! Also... My FRIKKIN EARS
