Parents and video games

OcramBro

Its like they just don't mix, they always end up saying stuff about gaming making kids violent and make them anti social. But the main thing that doesn't make sense in that argument is, there literally is an ESRB right on the box it tells them the appropriate age that the video game should be played, like literally......right on the box, anyways is it bad video games or bad parenting

There are actually fair amounts of studies against this stigma, ReviewTechUSA on YouTube has seen a good one about video games linked to violence.

No no you have it wrong, it's not parents and video games, it's retarded people who happen to have kids and video games.

Normal people with kids and video games don't have this problem.

Pretty good point. Some parents worry about how their child will grow up and how spending time on video games will affect them later on, though.

He honestly is, especially with the situation with his graphics cards. But he covers the study and the topic pretty well in that one video.

There's being protective of things that are dangerous and then there's being protective of things that aren't dangerous.

Being protective of video games because you think they'll make your kid violent is fucking stupid. I mean maybe if they're like 4, yea, they see and they do.

If a kid is like 8, they're smart enough to know you don't go around punching people on the street because you can in GTA.

Okay.

They were raised to believe something stupid, that's fine.

I mean, they don't have to like them, but if they won't let you have them because they think it will be bad for you, they're being stupid.

They follow the ratings a lot. The have stared to losen up but not much. "I don't like that game" about any shooter.

I've got immense amounts of experice in this area. Both my mother and myself have had lots and lots of very long conversations about this with various doctors and specialists.

The really short answer is that It's a very fine line between being a good parent and a over-protective parent. The only real difference being how much knowledge and experice the parent has in any particular area.

Unfortunately games are still a new media that for years has been seen as a kids toy and nothing more, so when uninformed people see games like GTA, BF, TR, DoA, so on they tend to jump to the extreme conclusion [humans are quite good at this it would seem], which as we all know is just about always wrong.

Our generation will be able to teach our kids about videos games the same way our parents have taught us about movies but our kids will have something that we don't understand and the whole cycle starts again. All we can do is remember what is happening right now with games and recognise it with our kids.

WTF are you talking about? I'm a parent and I play games.

Besides, about ESRB, what the hell do I care what a foreign rating board rates a game?
