Should weed be legal? [Discussion]

Overkilled
Go to solution Solved by Albatross,

What makes someone else think they can dictate another person's life and habits? I really want the answer to this, and no one against legalizing weed can answer  it (at least logically). If someone can smoke, drink, abort, own guns or whatnot, why can't someone have a little weed? Smoking, drinking and driving harms more people than weed, and yet they remain perfectly legal...

Should weed be legal?

Personally im on the fence 50/50, while it is a drug by itself it should be illegal I think should be legal if cigarettes and alcohol are because they're actually way more harmful than weed (im not a pothead, ive never even tried weed)

Do you think weed should be legal? PS mods please dont lock this we're not endorsing drugs, weed is becoming legal in parts of the world and US we're just discussing it.

It's already legal where I live :P

But I dont really care. I would rather see tobacco go illegal, but that wont happen because of the lobbying by big cigarette companies

If its prescribed yes

otherwise no

it has more negatives than positives just like alcohol and cigarettes.

Making it legal would mean easier access. Easier access = more people using.

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

I couldn't care less either way as I don't smoke, but by making it legal it does help cut off cash flow to the cartels which is always good

yes. doesent differentiate from alcohol or tobacco that much, its drug in the same level as those. im just waiting... until its legal here. i understand that "hard" drugs(idk what to call them, like cocaine and stuff), those are bad in whole different level and should be illegal, but weed? cmon.

There's enough drug abuse already

In my opinion, drugs, alcohol and smoking should all be banned at the same time.

Yes, it should, as long as they have proper ways to test for impairment.

I honestly don't see that many down sides, other than perhaps some longer lines at fast food chains.

People should be free to put whatever they want into their own bodies, so yes.

I think that's a bit of a slippery slope.
By that wording people should be allowed to have anthrax.

yes because it is used medically to help with pain

So was cocaine ;)

Totally. BC would make tons of money, though I don't think it'd really reduce our taxes. Unless it became like Alberta and their oil, allowing us to eliminate PST all together.

I say yes, although i'm for the legalization of all substances provided (speaking from my location) you are legally an adult.

So my opinion may not mean much; given the fact i myself don't really partake in any illegal substances, addiction is still a very real thing but that's an issue with healthcare and how we treat or underfund rehabilitation.

I believe in self-reliance and self-responsibility.

I feel very strong about weed being illegal. It's just another stupid thing for people to get hooked on. And even though it's not really that bad, I just think it's unnecessary to have it be legal, when it can potentially cause some serious long term effects that are arguably just as bad as cigarettes'.

People are going to abuse weed. It will cause massive issues with businesses since employers don't want anything to do with people that do smoke weed, and people will most likely start exploring more things to push the potential law's boundaries once again. Proving that it could potentially cause yet another problem.

Actually, the possibilities for developing addictions still does very much apply to marijuana.

I could make the exact same argument for MDMA, the thing is that addiction is more than just developing a physical "need" for a substance.

There's a reason porn and gambling addictions exist even though they are not physical substances.

I think that's a bit of a slippery slope.

By that wording people should be allowed to have anthrax.

If people wanted to commit suicide via Anthrax, it's not my place to outlaw it.

I can't really see why anyone would, seeing how dying from Anthrax allegedly is pretty painfull.

However, Anthrax as a substance should probably be outlawed, since the potential risk of third-party harm is that much larger than any drug that I know of.

Unlike cigarettes weed isnt addictive.

That depends on how you define "addictive".

Wait what? Isn't THC addictive?

In theory anything is addictive but there are no withdrawal symptoms, you could probably use it for ten years and one day be able to stop. Its no more addictive than Coffee (apparently)

It's going to be legal in canada in a few months. Weed is less harmful than other drugs and even cigarettes and is a great source of tax revenue. Its already really easy to get illegally so there wouldn't be much of a difference when it is legal.
