Xeon Build

Trey222

This is my build log for my first PC build. I will update this thread as more parts come. The Motherboard came today. It is the Asus X58 P6T Deluxe. The rest of the parts are the X5650 for the CPU, the Deepcool Captain 360 AiO to cool the CPU, 8GB Kingston RAM, the Powercolor R9 390, XFX pro 850W PSU, 1TB WD Blue and 250GB Samsung 850 Evo, all housed in the Fractal Design Define S. This should be a fun build and I will update this thread as more parts come.

if that isn't a blast from the past. hope they remade the bios over the years because the originals were really screwed up. it was one of the worst boards you could purchase.

The X5650 came today. It was bigger than I expected and a lot heavier. A lot of the parts should be coming in on Monday so stay tuned for updates.

Some parts arrive earlier than expected today. My WD 1TB hard hard drive, my awesome Deepcool Captain 360mm AiO liquid CPU cooler that I got for only 90 US on Newegg, and last but not least the XFX Pro 850 Watt PSU that I got for 60 US on Ebay. More parts to come soon. This is really fun and I can't wait to start building it.

Thank you. Price to performance was the original purpose of this build, but then I got some extra cash and bought some nicer parts. :D Though overall the price to performance should still be pretty good.

Sorry for not updating sooner I have been busy with school. Anyways since the last update I have received the monitor, case, and the RAM. The monitor is a 23 inch IPS 1080p panel by AOC. I am a big fan of this monitor because it had slim bezels and and nice brushed aluminum look. The case is the Define S by Fractal Design. This case is huge. It is much larger than I expected it to be and I am actually happy about that because it looks super nice. The RAM is a single 8GB stick of 1600MHz HyperX Fury. The last shipment of parts is coming Friday then the fun of building begins.

Today is the day the rest of the parts come and the build begins. Unfortunately my plan to run an ethernet cable through the ceiling is no longer viable so I won't be able to benchmark they system until the powerline adapter I ordered comes in. I am so excited to start building the system. It seems like a lot longer than 9 days since I started. Thanks to everyone who has been following.

Triple channel motherboard, single stick of ram. Why?

I was wondering why, too, especially only 8 gigs. There are games now that get close to hitting, or passing the 8G mark.

CPU: R7 1700 @ 3.875GHz/1.335v , GPU: Fury Nitro.

it might be ram compatibility you might need 4gb sticks to get it to post and update the bios.

Looking at the spec sheet..

6 x DIMM, Max. 24 GB

sounds like it only supports 4gb DIMMs. Just checked the QVL list, it doesn't support 8gb DIMMs. Only 4gb.

I have tried both 1gb and 2gb sticks of ram still no post. I think Iay have to update the bios to run a Xeon. Unfortunately to do that I would need an i7 920 or similar.
