Mechanical Keyboard Club!

Dave :)

I've personally got the quickfire pro with MX reds, love the keycaps, not too much of a fan of this keyboard anymore though, I like the clean look of the filco keyboards so might be trading up :)

You know I have the DS II, and I do have a Ninja as well......build quality and overall sturdiness, both are equal imo, so you can't go wrong with a Ninja. I was attracted to the Ninja simply because it, like all Filco KB's, is clean looking....no bling to distract you, just plain and simple looking KB. I'd replaced some of the key caps to red non-Ninja types, but have since gone back to the original Ninja key caps because, I don't know, I guess it was meant to look that way. But, I'm working on getting some colored Ninja key caps, kind of hard to get, but I'm determined to get some......then, I'd not mind swapping out the key caps.

Guys, I'm in a bit of a pickle, The DK9008S2 Special Ed comes with either Green or Blue backlight, but the models here have either:

Green LED + Blue or Red switch

Blue LED + Brown switch

I've already reserved the latter, but am thinking green backlight is kind of rare, and I don't mind Blue switch.....decisions, decisions!  Green is kind of hard to match, but does look pretty good in the pic......argh!

I wish there's a keyboard that allows you to change the backlight just like my G600. It allows me change up to 16millions colours if I'm not wrong. I wonder if there is custom colours in the future.

Well, we can only wait with bated breath till then.... ;)  Damn, it just occurred to me that I'd be getting the Special Ed tomorrow, what if Ducky Shine III has RGB LEDs?! :o

Blue LEDs is just way too common imo..

Unless Ducky mods the switches or Cherry changes the design of the switch I don't think that will happen, would be awesome though!

Hence my dilemma, but green is so hard to match.....two of my rigs have red LED while the 3rd has blue......no sign of green anywhere! Ugh! I guess I'll ask those guys in the shop to light both up, and make my decision there and then,,,,,,spur of the moment thing (just like the decision to buy yet another KB though I already have 6 :o )

Hehe, if I had the money I would have alot of different mech keyboards too, I also only have one place to use them, aside from my server/mediacenter, but I would need it to be cordless.

I kind of regret getting a none shine, but that may come later on.. :)

I'm curious, where do you keep your mech KB collection?

Right now, I have two TKL KBs (a DK9087G2 Pro Black and a CM Quick Fire TK Blue) hooked up to my 3rd rig, the DS II 78 Version on my main rig, and the Filco Ninja Brown on my 2nd rig. Will prolly remove both TKL from my 3rd rig when I get my new DS II Special Edition Brown/Blue (haven't decided on which) tomorrow. Then, these two TKL KB's will join my Storm Trigger and Armaggeddon Black Hornet on top of my cupboard within easy reach should I want a change in KB's. In all likeliness, I'd prolly give my nephew my Trigger and just keep the three TKL KBs for the heck of it. Over the years, I've given my nephew some spare hardware....

OK, I was at the shop and checked out both the Blue and Green LED, looks like green looks better, so I went for the green LED Blue switch version. One thing I'd noticed straight away, Ducky Cherry Blue does not sound as loud as the Quick Fire TK, and I don't know, it seems to have a softer feel to it.....and typing on it feels more like a brown with a mild click. I didn't know that the same switch on different KB makes sound different....the tactile feel of the Ducky is less harsh than that on the QF TK....like it's softer, but that doesn't make sense since they are essentially the same. It could be the material used and the way the switch are mounted on the board that makes the difference....I don't know, kind of hard to define it now. ANyway, I've decided to use it on my 2nd rig, and I'm fortunate in that:

1. My Logitech G9 V1 has adjustable LED colors on it, I'd changed it to green to match the KB

2. Since my 2nd rig has 2x GTX670, I've decided to go green by swapping out the red LED strip and fan in favor of green ones.

Here's a pic of the KB, believe me, it looks sweeter up close and in 'person'

Hello just a quick question.  I was on my way  to buy a blue switch keyboard, as they feel supreme for me, but the shop has none in stock. Shall I wait for a blue switch or go for the red switches that I have never tested , are they that hideous ? (gonna use it for gaming and typing equally)

My humble opinion is, red switches aren't horrible, they are great for gaming, but for typing, one tends to make more typos with them as they are linear and quite sensitive so there is an adjustment period required. Reds feel most like the membrane KB's that everyone's been using till this mech craze hit. Linear means you don't feel a 'bump' when you depress the key, unlike Blues and Browns. If you like the Blues, then be a little patient and wait for the shop to restock the Blues....it'd be worth the wait.
