Move windows 7 installation

giinnga

So, I'm currently building a new PC (Skylake platform) and have some OS doubts.

I have an old 500Gb HD with windows 7 and all my stuff on it, and I bought a new SSD for my new PC.

Is it possible to use the old HD with windows 7 to upgrade to windows 10 an clean install in into the SSD?

Thanks!

After upgrading to W10 using your hard drive, you can clone the HDD to the SSD, and then run "Reset this PC" which allows you to reinstall Windows 10 while also allowing you to retain any personal files if desired.

an easier way is to just clean install windows 10 from a USB on the SSD and activate it with the windows 7 key

That's another way too, but my method works if OP doesn't have a USB flash drive or blank DVDs with an optical drive that burns discs.

im pretty sure its safe to assume that everyone owns a 4GB USB drive or can easily get one for $1
