is it ok if i make my own custom case with wood planks or something like that until i save up money for a real case?

If you can't afford a real case don't bother making your own unless you know what you're doing.

Just setup an open bench

Make sure you clean your hardware every so often, dust is a real problem! :)

If you have the tools. You have to keep in mind that you need motherboard standoffs, mobo screws, drivebays, so as long as you know what your doing and you have the right tools.

I thought I had some money... Oh wait... I spent it all ;(
