How can you virtualize sessions with physical hardware specially gfx cards like that, I've played with esxi and other vm software but still haven't got to the level of gfx virtualizing like that, from 60 to almost over 100 fps ?!?

Please elaborate on the software used to virtualize, console settings etc.

Thank you.

Besides the build log is there a documentation or something more detailed about the project? I'm sure there are so many things that are going in the background that I don't know about but definetly want to learn.

If someone doesnt know what they are doing, then I doubt that someone is able to write documentation.

If you want to look into it then google vt-d, gpu passthrough, passthrough kvm/qemu and esxi passthrough.

If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough it will be believed.

@archierrie He used the VM functionality of the unRAID OS which is powered by KVM and Proxmox. He passed through the graphics card so that each VM was outputting through a GPU directly as opposed to using a virtual display adapter.

Can i use this build as a renderfarm for blender.

blender seems to have support for network rendering. Though i need to build a node network system for using Blender’s network render, i think i can also do this wirelessly, but im not sure. But i think i can make a shared output folder and do the rendering from there.

i need to know if this kind of cpu can simulate a LAN connection between the 7 instances of Windows and do a LAN connection with a separate computer simultaneously. Because im planning to get into the vfx industry, and my base computer isn’t powerful enough to render 200-1000 frames in an instant, especially if i have a lot of geometry, multiple 4k-12k textures, complicated node setups, multiple gigabytes of Adobe AfterEffects files, Blackmagic Design Fusion 9 files, Adobe Premiere files, H.264 files, redcode raw files and multiple instances of Blender doing the rendering, a self programmed/third party Adobe AfterEffects network renderer, Blackmagic Design fusion 9 network rendering, and element 3d rendering.

though i will be replacing the R9s with Nvidia Quadro GV100s

For pro work use xeons on ecc ram. Even much more powerful setup like this...

hi, i know its and old post but.... i have to much free time now and i wana play with thise, one thing that i dont undestand is how does btrfs with snapshots work to make a file not to be stored tweice. I already google it but cant find the answer, if some can plaese explane to mi or put a link.

Once someone told me that mac in its new filesystem have something like that, so a file is realy one one time in the hd and the others are only shourcuts, does zfs have something like that?

Linus you need tu remake it, but realy "EPIC"

it took me some time but I'm finally at a point where this video has relevant information for me

BUT

linus didn't explain AT ALL the process to mimic drives across systems from snapshots, and while I'm not using unraid or btrfs I'm sure the information would help me with my proxmox cluster...

Linus I'm here and I need help, if you can see this please have someone reach out.

edit: after posting I notice the guy directly above me has the same question.... now is definitely the time to reach out

Spoiler

yeah, i think Linus have homework, just a short video explaining how to use one image for many vms. I really try to but don't get it to work. And also have a lot of questions on this point, if i have windows installed, does the first vm use the original file (virtual disk)? if the first vm updates windows, all the other vms get updated? and so on with installing and updating games? or is it so that if i install a game in the first pc i have to create a new snapshot if i want to save space and will have to say goodbye to all the customizations from each vm? because games (i mean fornite) get over 5 gb updates weekly
