With 1,500$ you can get a good sound system alone, if you want 7.1. But if you want a projector as well, then go with a 5.1 setup and BenQ projector or something.

Optoma HD141X $549

ELAC C5             $180

ELAC B6             $280

Fluance AVBP2  $120

Sony STRDH550$185

Dayton SUB-1200$150

Just do 5.1. Try to find used things on Craigslist (most likely receiver) to save some money for a screen and speaker stands. You could probably substitute the Fluances for something cheaper like the Micca COVO-S's since you don't really need that expensive of rears.

I agree with the others saying you should go 5.1 instead. $1500 USD isn't a lot for both a projector and 7.1 speakers unless you get used ones or cheap-o ones. You are better off to get higher quality speakers for 5.1 than lesser speakers just to have 7.1.

Look for used speakers online buy a last year model of receiver projector I have no idea about.  I have bought really good speakers used.  The speakers i got now would cost $2500 i got them for 200 powered sub is like 1000 bucks new i bought it and some other speakers for 160 sold the speakers for 200 so it cost me nothing.  For receiver look for clearance sale.  I paid 500 bucks Canadian was on sale form 1200.  Don't get sucked into expensive wiring but don't buy dollar store junk for front speakers.  Online retailers are the way to go.  If you want to get it up and running buy cheap stuff but don't leave it.  Go to audioholics forums they can give good advise.
