280x is basically an HD 7950

380 is a better performer tht the GTX 960

I guess the GTX 960 is better that GTX 760(number is greater)

Now the choice is up to you

Edit: 280x is HD 7970

280X is the most powerful, although I've heard mixed reviews.

380 is better than 960 and seems to be more stable.

This is the question tho. Do I spend the extra 30-50 bucks for the 4gb version if I go the 380/960 route. CAD is basically monopoly money ATM.

280x is the better option

or get the 380 if you want something new

Don't get 760 or 960

Yep, especially for the 380 you need the extra vRam for some games for stability.

Edit:Or save the money and just get the R9 280x

That is the thing.... the 280x isn't cheaper. It's more expensive. Prices from pcpartpicker.

Imo 970 or 390, but given the choices my vote would be for the 280x/380. Which of those two is up to you.

Thought so, then your best bet is the R9 380, didn't you find any Sapphire/MSI cards?

You can get a zotac 970 for like 418 (378 after $40 MIR) from ncix canada. Don't know what shipping and tax will be for ya. I apologize that I'm trying to suggest a product you may not be interested in. I dunno if the extra 100 cad in cost is worth the gains in performance or not. Just giving you an alternative.

Appreciate the input but I want to stick to my 300-320ish budget. I wanted to get a 970 for the longest time but penny saving can only go on for so long before what I saved burns a hole.

280x is the most powerful option, but the 380 has all the gcn 1.2 features and more vram.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

I'd go for the 280x unless you're really concerned about power consumption, in which case you should go with the 380. The 960 only makes sense with a low end cpu, but your's is pretty strong.

The 280x is a fair bit faster than both these cards.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

They need to pull their socks up, their Nvidia support is lacking too from what I read on these forums
