Best GPU upgrade for *crappy* E7400 and a sketchy 500W PSU

djdelarosa25

Title says it all. This is my dad's old PC and I thought I'd do a favor and upgrade the GPU. The CPU is a Core 2 Duo E7400 and the PSU is a 500W sketchy Powerlogic thing. What GPU that's powerful enough yet super power efficient would fit this situation?

Pls don't bring your first-world PC problems here and suggest to upgrade the whole rig. Dad doesn't want to spend money on a PC that he uses once a week.

whydoes he need a GPU for a rig he uses once a week?

why not get him a new laptop? what is the GPU for?

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

No because the 750Ti isn't that powerful.

I'm about to order things to go with my i7 and 750 Ti

Wouldn't that be a huge bottleneck?

Why should it be?

It'd take a really slow CPU to bottleneck a 750ti. I don't know why, but people have got into their heads that graphics cards are really easily bottlenecked by older CPUs. I mean, sure - don't pair a c2d with a furyX or a 980ti, but anything less and you're really not going to notice a real-world difference.

The 750ti is the best graphics card that doesn't require auxiliary power.

Anything cheaper? Like, seriously dirt cheap? $40

( I know this sounds funny, but I'm broke atm. Just built my rig)

To be fair, CSGO is not going to get 100 FPS or more as it is generally a CPU intensive game. I couldnt really recommend a GPU other than something like a gt 720.

My Rig:

Xeon E5 1680 V2 @ 4.5GHz - Asus Rampage IV Extreme X79 Mobo - 64GB DDR3 1600MHz - 8 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Low Profile - CAS 10-10-10-27 - AMD Radeon RX 6700XT Sapphire Pulse 12GB - DeepCool E-Shield E-ATX Tempered Glass Case - 1 x 1TB Crucial P1 NVMe SSD - BeQuiet Straight Power 11 850W Gold+ Quad rail - Fractal Design Celsius S36 & 6 x 120mm silent fans - Lenovo KBBH21 - Corsair Glaive RGB Pro - Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit

Monitors - 3 x Acer Nitro 23.8" 1080p 75Hz IPS 1ms Freesync Panels = AMD Eyefinity @ 75Hz
