Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.00GHz or Intel Xeon E5-2660 @ 2.20GHz

What processor would be better for gaming? I'm looking to do a new build pretty soon and have been looking for a good processor that will last me a while.

it says that the Xeon E5-2660 is benchmarked higher and is also cheaper.

 

However, on

it seems to be the opposite.

 

I realize that the i7-4790k is the common buy right now, but I'm looking for the best processor at that price range. Thanks!

the xeon has more threads, which is good for productivity.

But overlclocking is a lot of fun, but you need an aftermarket cooling solution.

CPUBoss is garbage. That being said the i7 will have the edge.

The i7 will be better for gaming because gaming tends to favor fewer, stronger cores.

On that note, are there any better, consumer grade CPUs out there with similar prices? Or is the i7-4790k the way to go right now?

If you already have the board for that socket, sure. If not Id rather save up and get something new. Just going off how the cpu performs for the games I play. Stuck using a single card and it can barely handle that.
