No. It simply won't support it. It's a waste of money too.

  • 2 years later...

I stumbled upon this old thread while researching options for my GA-G31M-S2L.  I can't speak for the GA-G31M-ES2L, but the GA-G31M-S2L absolutely supports 8GB RAM.  Official docs don't mention 8GB support because 2x4GB DDR2 wasn't available when the board was tested.  I have installed 2x4GB Mushkin Silverline 996762 DDR2-800.  Runs great with my Xeon E5450 Quadcore 3.0 GHz 12MB Cache CPU (socket 771 > 775 conversion).

I'd bet on 8GB support for the ES2L as well.

FYI: on Ebay, Xeon E5450 < $15 and 8GB Mushkin Silverline DDR2 $40.  For $55, this board makes a killer Sierra Hackintosh.
