Low image quality on newer GPUs

Demiqas

Illuminati confirmed

you must be VERY clueless on how modern game GPU rendering is done on a hardware level to even begin to think some stupid shit like that could be even possible!...no offense!

Is there any more evidence? 2 screenshots of an old game I don't even know the name of is not convincing at all.

You made some kinda ridiculous claims (no offense) like IQ getting lower over time, but It's quite possible that these issues were there all along and you only started noticing them recently. I had 290X, and in fact I still own it, but I got a GTX 970 and decided to put it in my main rig and see how it performs. I tested it and noticed z-fighting and a lot of aliasing. At first it seemed like something's wrong with it, or Nvidia drivers, but when I put my 290X it had the same issues. So things like these happen, you just don't notice them immediately. In my case, I noticed them when I was testing my new GPU and looking for artifacts.

Now, it's quite possible that there are some Nvidia specific issues. I hadn't done a thorough IQ comparison, but I might do it. No promises, though. Afaik no one did a proper IQ test recently to see if there's really any difference between AMD/Nvidia or even older and newer GPUs. Both AMD and Nvidia reduced IQ in the past to cheat in benchmarks, so who knows what we would find. But I think issues like flickering and z-fighting are game or driver related issues. Also, AA is supposed to reduce aliasing, not completely remove it.

I will start testing this. I have an 9800gt i can add to that list too. This might take some time though, if what you say is true about it taking weeks to set in. I do have another question/request to make of you in the mean time. When you installed your new GPU, did you run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) before installing the new card? If not, are you willing to try it and test the results for me?

Another question is: Have you noticed the problems when testing Windowed, Full Screen, and Full Screen Exclusive modes? Last but not least, have you tried OGSSAA (Downsampling) and see if that has made any difference in the quality of the image? I mean legit OGSSAA, not the DSR included within Nvidia's control panel.

If you can give me your results from those questions i have asked, it will greatly help in my test, as i always completely scrub drivers before upgrading cards, even if they are from the same vendor.

It takes weeks to set in if the card is brand new yes. I always reinstall windows before installing a new card. I've done everything imaginable, windows, fullscreen, downsampling, all types of anti aliasing etc. etc. None of it seemed to help, not even downsampling from 4k resolution.

As for the rest of the people here, if you're not going to bother reading I'm not going to bother to respond.

Not sure what to say except I don't see a difference between the posted screenshots and I don't really notice such issue with my GM107 860M(750Ti).

The IQ difference issue keeps cropping up from time to time. After Fury X's release there were was this BF4 comparison video with Titan X that blew up on some forums.

Also see comments on this comparison in Battlefront,

It's usually noticed by some users who move from AMD to nvidia. It'd usually not be apparent if you're upgrading unless you're running older games on same settings as the previous card.

I've found the difference to be massive and I don't even play old games (unless you call 3-4 year old games "old"). I did however notice that AMD tens to have more z-fighting issues than nvidia. But the aliasing quality is miles ahead.

This might be related with output dynamic range being limited instead of full by default with Nvidia. Other then that, no idea. I noticed a difference switching from AMD to Nvidia though, the image quality looked more vibrant in GTA 5 compared to my old configuration.

I notice that the colors on my Y50 are worse than on the R9 280 but it could also be due to the different display

Try going to Nvidia control panel, desktop color settings, and turn digital vibrance to max.

You should try reinstalling your drivers then. It's not a mobile issue. I don't have GeForce Experience installed so I'm guessing that's what you're using?

The colors? A lot of people say Nvidia have more washed out colors. Hence why this exists

I already know that the colors are washed out by default when you install them until you turn up digital vibrance. I asked if there's anyone who has the issue of missing settings in the control panel.

that looks a little like a pixel offset issue... similar to rendering at a slightly different resolution than your display produces...

maybe its a DSR bug? I assume the older cards don't support DSR

Wouldn't that slightly blur the whole image though?  This issue seems to be an otherwise identical screen/image (as in just as sharp) but with messed up edges & thin lines (fences, powerlines, aliasing, etc.)
