Low image quality on newer GPUs

Just wanted to bring this up since I was reminded by seeing "VGA" and it hasn't been mentioned in a while.  this message is not targeted at anyone specifically; just a general statement:

 

To anyone claiming to have issues who has their monitor connected using a VGA (D-SUB) cable: don't even bother posting until that has been fixed!  VGA is an obsolete analog signal that is prone to interference and has already been proven to be the cause of one person's problems.  What you are seeing might (depending on what you are complaining about) be entirely a result of the VGA connection and not actually a rendering error in any way.  Switch to any digital signal (DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI) and reevaluate the situation before bringing anything up! :)

Hm, I think there is a misunderstanding.

I use a Display Port, VGA wouldn't be a good choice for a 1440p screen anyway :]

EDIT : But only by reading this article, I can see that it's not a possible answer to our issue, tbh.

Like I said, seeing the term "VGA" just reminded be it was time for another warning, since like I said, one person't problems were already found to be a result of that.  I wasn't directing this at anyone :)

@Ryan_Vickers : my bad !

 

Just tested The Vanishing of Ethan Carter: Redux, after I read about it in the previous pages. My god it is beautiful, and no issues at all : TAA get rid of every single bit of aliasing but is a little bit blurry, and using T+FXAA is the most effective one IMO, even if there is still some jaggies in the background.

The KFA2 GTX970 handle it perfectly at ultra settings, even in 1440p.

 

Why the hell some games are barely playable, and others still gorgeous ? Definitely a software / driver issue (stating the obvious).

I agree with you that TAA is the best.  If you play Fallout 4, you can see it in action.  Such a beautiful game to play with minimal to no jaggies at all.

Guys fucking seriously i get shimmering and shadow issues it depends on what game engine and it's config.. obviously there are slight variations.. OMFG.

It's actually not that bad. I run it in 1440 though. But the shimmering and other effects would drive a picky person nuts xD

You guys worry too much. I used DVI on my Fury (before I sold it for a 980 Matrix) and I got the issue in Witcher 3. It varies from game to game, but I am on Windows 10, so that may be it. This doesn't seem to be just an NVIDIA issue...

Talking about that, I tried some games on my old 1080p 20" monitor, and a lot games looks really "better" in terms of shimmering. All issues are less annoying, and I thought that I wouldn't see some of them if I did not knew. Ironically.

Unfortunately, yeah, it seems that the issue is cross-platforms. That would have been great, if we just had to switch to AMD.

 

The issue that I'm trying to isolate now is the dotted reflections on metallic or wet surfaces (most of the time), which you can see on the video I uploaded (The crew), or in the last Tomb Raider.

 

Yep, I have some time to waste ^_^. Whether it's real or not..

I'm an OOOOOLD gamer xD This is not new. What is new is the expectations people have. Gameplay used to be the thing held above everything else, now people want realism.

Is a thing you experienced for years ? I'm not sarcastic, I just want some people to tell me that it's normal. I mean, I already understood that some of the issues are due to the lack of LOD Bias, or the fact that I changed my monitor juste days before my GPU, so why not this one too.

 

Even if this look really really bad IMO. It's hard to ignore it, just give me that :P

You can avoid a lot of issues with the settings you use, but usually have different issues because of those choices. It's a balancing act.

 

But yes, it's normal.

 

My generation had to give their cartridges a blow job to fix them and get back you playing, you guys have it easy and don't even know it xD

Yes, but at least it was kind of simple. I mean, now you have issues that could come from everywhere, software or hardware. 

It's like cars, old ones were functional, easy to use and fix. Now you can't put your hands inside because of complexity ^_^
