Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I would want to get my grand father a turntable and a pair of headphones as he loves listening to music but his old turntable is broken and he is using crappy headphones from 30 years ago. He's always wanted to listen to his collection of LP records and it would be really awesome if it came a reality.

Headphones: http://amzn.com/B00PEU9CFA

Thank you everyone at LTT and merry christmas!

My mum, sister and brother would LOVE a WD My Cloud EX2

I've moved out now, but at my mums place, I also having my brother and sister living there who are always on their laptop. (My mum to, but she won't even let me upgrade her laptop to Windows 10 because she thinks she wont understand it)

If I were to be able win this (Or any other NAS Box) I would install it for her, my brother, sister and myself (When I'm there) and set it all up for them then they would be able to have lots of storage for all their pictures and music.

I not too fussed with the storage, because if it comes to it, I will install another HDD.

I sure hope I win, because my family would LOVE this, even if they don't have a clue what it is.

P.S: I live in the UK and I hope this doesn't hurt my chances of winning :/

My current Set-Up: (Now in RGB)

My uncle always steals my tool kit... He lost his kit a year ago and it does not look like he's going to buy a new one... He used to love his tools but does not have the funds to buy a new one.

Would be awesome for me to have my own tools on hand, without searching my uncle if I need my own tools.

If I had that budget I would have to choose between two items both for all the family.

The first would be a Nvidia Sheila TV. As it stands we all do our own thing, me and my brother upstairs on our computers, dad on his ipad and mum on her surface. This would bring us together like the wii used to and get my parents into video games.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00XO7AK1U/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1449152876&sr=8-2π=SX200_QL40&keywords=nvidia+tv&dpPl=1&dpID=31sBdWqyflL&ref=plSrch

The other is a Google Asus router. Still using the talk talk provided we are limited to 4 devices at a time on a 2ghz channel. All the time we shout for a device to disconnect and my parents are sceptical to buy a new one.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00XO7AK1U/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1449152876&sr=8-2π=SX200_QL40&keywords=nvidia+tv&dpPl=1&dpID=31sBdWqyflL&ref=plSrch

Thanks so much for this opportunity, loving the content from the new location and I wish you all a merry Christmas.

right now she keeps hijacking my sisters laptop to go on facebook and play all her various bubble/puzzle games and gets frustrated because it's an ancient machine that can hardly handle these flash games

I would get my mom the Samsung galaxy tab s 8.4 (refurbished) because she struggles to enjoy entertainment with her crappy android. I think touchwiz will help tremendously with her doing things like know if she opened an app or not. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-8-4-Inch-Dazzling-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B00R1WQCLQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449153989&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=samsung+galaxy+tab+s+8.4&psc=1

I'd get my whole family a projector; while I'm at university with the biggest screen that will fit on my desk (27"), they're at home watching movies from the sofa on a screen nearly the size of my laptop (think it was 19"). I have no idea how they manage, but my mom insists it's not worth getting one bigger. Probably get this one http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-PJD5155-Projector-Lumens-Black/dp/B00SZ4G4YE/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449153988&sr=1-9&keywords=projector

My Mom is the least tech-savy person in our family. She's 67 and has been a programmer for the most part of he life, yet she struggles to do anything on a smartphone other than placing a call, writing a SMS/email or take a photo. Part of the reason is that she always gets the hand-downs from either me or my brother (yes, we hand our phones down to our parents, not vice versa :P ) and by the time she gets them they are usually 'usable' but definiteley dated and crappy to use, like the iPhone 3GS she's been using until now.

I initially planned on getting a Nexus 6P for christmas myself and handing her my excellent Nexus 4, however with the brutal Nexus prices here in germany i don't see myself doing that. :D

So in order to release her from her struggle, I'd want to gift her a new smartphone! The one i have originally thought of was the Oneplus X, a excellent entry level/midrange smartphone: http://www.amazon.com/Orginal-Oneplus-Smartphone-Android-2-3GHz/dp/B017IOHJX6/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1449154029&sr=1-1&keywords=oneplus+x

However if i am one of the lucky winners and the Oneplus X does not lie within the 300 USD price bracket at the time of viewing, my mother would also be more than happy about a Moto G 3rd gen: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Moto-3rd-Generation-Unlocked/dp/B00ZQVSKSM/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1449154058&sr=1-1&keywords=moto+g

Best regards and happy holidays!

who cares...

I'm in the same boat as you. My sister upgraded from a Radeon HD 6850 to a GTX 960 (guess who installed it) to play Fallout 4 recently and is using a monitor with only a VGA output.

A HTPC for both of my parents.

We have an older tv that doesn't support usb in and they have been using a t-box (i think this is an Australian only thing) which works probably 2% of the time. I would like to setup netflix for them as they love house of cards and i would much rather them stream through netflix then pirate.

i think a nuc would be a good start:

Hey Linus, thank you so much for this great giveaway!

My selection would be a gift for my mom, she recently moved into a condo where she can't easily mount or route her beloved 5.1 stereo system that she's owned for a long time. So in order to help out, I'd love to make her 2 rear speakers wireless and I've found this kit: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Speaker-Kit-Amplifiers/dp/B008BNO40U

Hope you select my entry! It'll sure make her day AND it'll certainly make my life easier this Christmas too, as I wouldn’t have to spend a weekend routing wires and what not! Thank you so much!

My dad has been frustrated by his SLOW Dell laptop. Obviously, the system bottle-neck is the 5400 rpm HDD. An SSD would go along way to extend his laptop's life span.

I found SanDisk Ultra II 960GB SDD for $277 (as of the time I am writing this):

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M8ABHVQ/ref=psdc_1292116011_t2_B00OBRE5UE&tag=linustechtips-20

If the price ever changes, I would go with a Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB SSD.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E500B-AM/dp/B00OBRE5UE/ref=lp_1292110011_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449154800&sr=1-1&tag=linustechtips-20

Thanks!

Case: NZXT Phantom 530; Motherboard: ASUS Z97; CPU: i5 4670K; Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO; RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB; Graphics Cards: EVGA GTX 760; PSU: Seasonic SS-660XP2; SSD: SAMSUNG 840 Pro 1TB
